“You have to feel confident when people are photographing your toenails - they’re looking for flaws.”
Australian actress Cate Blanchett is paranoid when walking down the red carpet.

Cate Blanchett has signed an open letter to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - urging him not to censor a controversial photography exhibition.
Police in Sydney, Australia, shut down an exhibition of photographs by respected artist Bill Henson last week because the show featured naked pictures of 12 and 13-year-old children.
The move has sparked a heated debate in the country over the line between art and pornography.
And Blanchett has come to the defense of the exhibition, insisting Rudd should not block Henson’s work.
The letter reads: “We should remember that an important index of social freedom, in earlier times or in repressive regimes elsewhere in the world, is how artists and art are treated by the state.
“We wish to make absolutely clear that none of us endorses, in any way, the abuse of children. Henson’s work has nothing to do with child pornography and, according to the judgment of some of the most respected curators and critics in the world, it is certainly art.”

Cate Blanchett wanted to follow fellow Academy Award winner Emma Thompson’s lead and place her 2004 Oscar statuette in the bathroom - but was too proud to hide her award away.
The Australian star picked up the Best Supporting Actress gong for The Aviator at 2004’s Academy Awards, and wanted to be modest about her win by displaying the prize in the lavatory.
But the star eventually decided to go against her humble plans, and ended up placing her award center-stage - on top of her grand piano.
She says, “I thought about sticking it in the loo (toilet). I was going to be very witty and Emma Thompson about it. But I’m actually very proud of it so I ended up putting it on the grand piano because all my friends want to pick it up and pose with it.”

Cate Blanchett had no choice but to accept her role in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie - because she couldn’t turn down legendary director Steven Spielberg.
The Australian actress was ecstatic when the Jaws filmmaker approached her to play the villainous Irina Spalko in Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull - because she had loved the popular franchise as a child.
And the star couldn’t wait to start work on the adventurer’s latest outing - stating she had longed to feature in a Spielberg action movie.
She says, “I’ve always wanted to do something with lots of action in it. So when Steven Spielberg says, ‘Be a part of Indiana Jones’, I could hardly say no. I grew up with these films; they’re part of cinematic landscape.”

Cate Blanchett has vowed never to go under the knife - because she is convinced wrinkles reflect a person’s life experiences.
The mother-of-three - who turns 39 next week - insists she is proud of her imperfections and would never consider turning to surgery to fix them.
She tells Britain’s Glamour magazine, “I see someone’s face, someone’s body who has had children, and I think they’re the song lines of your experience, and why would you want to eradicate that? Death is not going to be any easier just because your face can’t move.”

This month’s issue of Marie Claire has been our hugely popular Eco Chic issue. Cate Blanchett is on the cover and inside the mag she gives an interview where she discusses green issues as well as her personal life, such as her husband and filming for the Inidana Jones movie. I have attached the front cover and some quotes from the interview below.
On her husband:
“We’re unnaturally close… He was the first person I was romantically involved with who I could talk to about how I work. I have actor friends whose partners don’t provide any constructive criticism. But I get support in all its forms from my husband… I really hope he gets that from me, too.”
On Indiana Jones:
“This is one my kids can definitely see… Dash watched takes with me on set and he was really impressed as I was by ‘the guy in the hat’, as he referred to Harrison Ford.”
On the future:
“I firmly believe we all have the capacity to think big thoughts and are ripe to be inspired. I’m an optimist. I believe we’re ready as a generation to seize this opportunity to make profound environmental changes for the better. After all, what’s the alternative?”
