Brooke Shields says she “instantly became friends” with Michael Jackson after meeting him when she was 13.

“Nothing was jaded about him. I just was so impressed by his sweetness,” Shields tells Rolling Stone’s special commemorative issue on the King of Pop, on stands Friday.

He was thoughtful, sensitive, sweet, and had a funny sense of humor,” she goes on. “If you got to talk to him about music or about the future of technology, his voice would get deeper, he would start talking, and it was as if he was this genius.”

Sexuality didn’t play a role in their relationship, she explains.

“As he grew older and the more he started to change physically, the more asexual he became to me,” Shields says. “It was easy for him to be a friend to me, because I was the most celebrated virgin ever; it’s ridiculous, but I was America’s virgin.

“You saw women who were more sexual, who wanted to throw themselves at him and feel like they were going to teach him; we just found each other, and we didn’t have to deal with our sexuality. As I grew up and started having boyfriends, I would share with him, and he was like a little kid who talked about the bases- what first base was, what second base was, and it sounded very odd to the outside, I can imagine, but to the inside, to someone who’s never really left his bubble, you can understand how he would be curious.” Shields continues.

“There were times when he would ask me to marry him, and I would say, ‘You have me for the rest of your life, you don’t need to marry me, I’m going to go on and do my own life and have my own marriage and my own kids, and you’ll always have me.’ I think it made him relax. He didn’t want to lose things that meant something to him,” she adds.

She last saw Jackson at Elizabeth Taylor’s 1991 wedding.

“He seemed like his own funny self,” she says. “We snuck in and took pictures of ourselves next to her dress. We always seemed to revert to being little kids. It was a sanctuary for him, because he knew I never wanted anything from him but his happiness.”

Brooke Shields has been known for her striking beauty for decades but her sun worshipping ways caught up with her recently when doctors found a pre-cancerous spot on her face.

Shields says she’s doing fine after having the spot removed but it served as a wake-up call to the actress who “used to think it was the best thing in the world to be baking in the sun” and who, as a teen, would indulge in hot-weather rituals like “baby oil and tinfoil and lemon in your hair.”

“All my girlfriends and I would go up on the roof in New York; we didn’t have to be at the beach,” though Brooke says she gave up active tanning over a decade ago she realizes now alot of the damage has already been done: “You think that because you’re not in the sun anymore, it’s all in the past. And then something like that crops up and you’re made aware of how dangerous it really can be.”

Brooke is now the new face of Coppertone Nutrashield which claims to protect from sun damage while promoting skin repair.

According to multiple published reports, Kiefer Sutherland allegedly headbutted women’s wear designer Jack McCollough after a boozy night in New York City early Tuesday morning.

New York’s Daily News reports that Sutherland, 42, was talking to Brooke Shields at a Met Gala after-party when McCollough accidentally bumped into the actress. Sutherland, who appeared intoxicated, then demanded the designer apologize.

“Sutherland was really drunk,” another witness tells the New York Post. “They started arguing and then he just head-butted him.”

McCollough’s injuries remain unknown, but TMZ reports he suffered lacerations on his nose.

Reps for Shields tell TMZ that McCollough “did nothing inappropriate. It’s not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did.”

Police are currently investigating the incident.

This isn’t Sutherland’s first booze-related mishap.

He was arrested in 2004 for DUI and, again, in 2007. In the 2007 case, he pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail.

At the time, he said, “I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24 and at 20th Century Fox.”

Despite reports, Brooke Shields says her NBC drama Lipstick Jungle hasn’t been scrapped.

“They thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it’s not true,” she told reporters at Sunday’s Kidsfest in NYC.

“They’re not breaking down the sets,” she added. “We’re still working. We still have more to do, so it’s erroneously presented that we’ve been canceled, thank God.

“Our bosses are saying, ‘You’re not canceled, don’t worry. We’re just trying to figure out how to make this make sense.’”

Shields said fans have already sent in tubes of lipstick to Jeff Zucker, president & CEO of NBC Universal, to show their support.

“It’s been insane,” she went on. “I think that the public outcry has been crazy, and it’s kind of wonderful.”

Is she optimistic for the show?

“I actually am,” Shields said. “I mean, we’re basically No. 1 if you look at DVR. And you look at all that. So the public is watching it.

“The problem that they have is it’s not the same day live,” she continued. “They just need to figure out how to reconcile advertisers’ money because the advertisers don’t want you fast forwarding commercials.”

If the show gets canned, she said she’ll be heartbroken.

“The family atmosphere and the excitement of being all together and working — that’s the perk,” she said. “I think they would be remiss if they decided not to continue next season.”

Co-star Kim Raver (who also denied that the show’s been canceled) said she would take the cancellation “really hard.

“The main thing is that me and Brooke and Lindsay [Price] have such a great time, not to sound corny,” she said.

She added, “I think on Monday there are emergency meetings as to what’s going to go on. But I know the executives are really pushing it and believe in it.”
