Britney Spears has lawyered up again — this time, she met with the lawyer who represented Mel Gibson in his DUI case.

Sources say Spears went this morning to meet with Blair Berk, a prominent criminal defense lawyer whose roster of clients includes Lindsay Lohan, Halle Berry, Tracy Morgan and others.

We do not know why Spears chose to meet with Berk, although it’s unlikely it has anything to do with her divorce. In her divorce case, Spears is repped by disso-queen Laura Wasser.

Spears could have met with Berk on a civil matter, as Berk handles both civil and criminal matters. Interestingly, Berk once repped Reese Witherspoon in her battle with hard-driving paparazzi. It’s possible Spears went to Berk for similar reasons.

It’s being reported pretty much everywhere that Britney has checked out of “Promises” Rehab Facility after only 24 hours.  She checked in yesterday, and checked out after only hours.  Apparently Britney can’t deal with rehab.  One source says that on her way from the rehab center – Britney visited a tattoo parlor, only to find it was closed. 

What is going on with that girl!

OTHER BRITNEY NEWS:  TMZ has learned that the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has received numerous phone calls to their hotline … about Britney Spears!

Sources tell TMZ that the Child Protection hotline received calls on Brit’s kids and her recent bizarre behavior. The DCFS provides a 24/7 phone number that any resident in the Los Angeles area can use to report or discuss any issue regarding children.

Britney Spears entered a rehab facility earlier this week, and as TMZ first reported, she checked out and flew back and shaved her head. Then she checked into a second facility, Promises in Malibu, on Tuesday … and out on Wednesday!

TMZ has learned Britney Spears is back in rehab. Sources say the singer has checked into an in-patient facility in Los Angeles. We’re told the move came after family members, including her mom, pressed her to check in.

Spears entered the facility today.

Last week, Spears checked herself into a rehab facility in Antigua but checked out less than 24 hours later.

UPDATE: Britney’s rep, Larry Rudolph, says “Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today,” Rudolph says in a statement. “We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as those of her family and friends at this time.”

The National Enquirer reports she checked in Promises in Malibu. She reportedly was taken yesterday at 5pm by her father, Jamie Spears.

An out-of-breath and disheveled Britney Spears almost lost it when she learned she might miss her flight to Los Angeles on Friday.

Carrying two small bags, Spears, 25, ran through Miami International Airport to catch her American Airlines flight. But when she arrived at the gate and handed her boarding pass to the ticket agent, she was informed that the walkway had been retracted from the plane and the flight was closed.

“She was really upset,” says David Paulsen, a passenger at an adjoining gate. “She (said) to the agent, ‘I’ve got to get on this plane to get home to my kids.’ She looked like she was about to cry.”

Paulson says the ticket agent called the pilot and requested that Spears be allowed on the flight: “‘I’ve got Britney Spears here and she wants to get on the plane.’” After a pause, the agent said, “‘No, I’m serious. Can we get her on the plane?’” A few seconds later, the agent smiled and nodded to Spears, and the walkway was extended again.

When Paulson later approached the ticket agent about Spears, he was told that it was, indeed, the pop star and she had gotten one of the very last seats on a full plane, with first class entirely booked.

An American Airlines spokesperson said that it’s not unusual for the airline to allow late arrivals on the plane as long as it doesn’t delay the flight. The final decision is left up to the cockpit crew and gate agents.

As a visibly relieved Spears was about to board the plane, Paulson says, she stopped to give an autograph to the agent, and then turned to the crowd of onlookers and waved. “‘God bless!’” she said, as she got on the plane.

*I’m sure the fact that her name is BRITNEY SPEARS has NOTHING to do with the fact that they brought the plane back to the walkway. Above pictures are from the airport, just hours before the hair/shaving incident.
