Director Terrence Malick’s movie, ‘Tree of Life’ won the Cannes Film Festival’s top honor on Sunday. The Palme d’Or award was handed out for the film starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. The movie winning the top award may come as a surprise to some, considering the movie received mixed reactions at the premiere.
Brad Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie are looking to star in a new movie together, because as Brad says, “why aren’t we doing everything together?” The couple met on the set of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ and their incredible chemistry was evident onscreen. Trouble was, Brad was married at the time to Jennifer Aniston. Not long after the movie was released, Brad and Jen divorced, and Brad started his family with Angelina.
In an interview with NPR, Brad talked about working with Angelina again. He also opened up on why he had so many kids, so quickly, and how BBQ’ing is his speciality.
Brad Pitt on why he had so many children – so quickly:
“I know it seems extreme from the outside, but I’ve always kind of operated this way. When I know, I know, and why mess around?” Pitt, 47, said in an interview.
“I had a friend who had a big family when I was a kid. I just loved the chaos around the breakfast table and the fighting and the ribbing, and the mom making pancakes for everyone or the dad making pancakes. And I just decided then if I was ever going to do it — this left some indelible mark on me — if I was ever going to do it, that’s the way I was going to do it.”
He also opended up about wanting to do another movie with his partner, Angelina Jolie:
“We’re not ones to repeat ourselves, but we’d like to, because right now, we’re hopscotching with films so one can be with the kids and one’s free to work,” Pitt said. “And why aren’t we doing them together? Why aren’t we doing everything together?”
Brad considers himself a family man, above everything else:
“I think my focus before was more irreverence, by nature,” Pitt said. “I’m a dad now. It’s more important to me that if I’m going to do the film, there’s something I can bring to it, it’s not generic. And most of all, I’m painfully aware that my kids are going to see these when they’re older, and I want them to understand something about their dad, and I want them to be proud of their dad.”
And maybe remember some chaos around the breakfast table, said Pitt, who cooks pancakes for his kids.
“Breakfast is pretty much my specialty,” Pitt said. “And barbecue.”
Brad Pitt opened up to press while on the red carpet of his new movie, ‘Tree of Life’. Brad opens up about a highly religious upbringing, one he found “stifling”. Maybe that’s why he was so drawn to his part in Terrence Malick’s new film. The movie is reportedly very heavily about religion.
It would be a gross oversimplification to say that Terrence Malick’s new film, “The Tree of LIfe,” is about religion, or even a singular definition of God. In many ways, the enigmatic filmmaker aims his camera higher, seeking answers found only in a celestial history beyond our understanding — or creating those answers for himself.
At once the story of the big bang and the Earth’s slow ascent to present, with competing explanations from scripture and startling imaginings of science’s creation story, the film also features, in sketches and broken memories, the story of a God-fearing man and the family he damages with his ungodly anger.
Brad Pitt plays that 1950′s Texan man, a regular churchgoer who prays with an anger not often found in the sanctuary. The role is as much about simmering looks and fractured inner turmoil as it is delivering lines in a southern drawl, requiring a certain simmering understanding of the character. It seems that, for Pitt, there was a natural connection to the part; as he told reporters at the film’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (where it was greeted with both boos and applause), he can relate to that sort of God-fearing upbringing.
“I got brought up being told things were God’s way, and when things didn’t work out it was called God’s plan,” the star told press at his ‘Tree of Life’ premiere. “I’ve got my issues with it. Don’t get me started. I found it very stifling.”
He also opened up about what it’s like to consider his children before picking movie roles. “I think of everything I do now that my kids are going to see when they grow up and how are they going to feel,” Pitt told reporters Monday at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. “But they know me as a dad and I hope they’ll just think of me as a pretty damn good actor.”
I think you’re a pretty damn good actor, does that count?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt hit the red carpet in Cannes this afternoon for the premiere of his new movie ‘Tree of Life’! What the heck is Angelina Jolie wearing!? The gown, by Versace, doesn’t do her any favors, in my opinion. It sorta looks like a bridesmaids dress!
Also at the premiere are Sean Penn, Jude Law and Jessica Chastain.
Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh, but doesn’t he look like some porn director from ‘Boogie Nights’!? Hair all slicked back, all white suit, goatee, gold necklaces… Call me crazy.
Not that he’s not hot, I think he looks incredibly hot!
Here is Brad Pitt and costar Jessica Chastain at the Cannes photo call for their new movie, ‘The Tree of Life’.
According to EW, the movie, directed by Terrence Malick was met with ‘boos’!
It’s daunting to describe Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, but scattered audience members at its first screening in Cannes needed only one syllable: boo.
The many supporters of the movie pushed back with counter-applause, but it was a shocking way for the movie to debut.
The Tree of Life is an elegiac litany of images and memory-like scenes more than a traditional narrative. Let’s see — in brief, it’s the origin of time and infinity through the lens of one troubled, 1950s-era Texas family, and stars Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain, though they share copious screen time with evolving galaxies, nebulae, and surreal, symbolic representations of the world beyond.
Call it a coming of age story about the universe.
Though the movie opens for everyone May 27, audience members crushed at the entrance Monday morning, shoving and hollering to gain entrance to a film that has been eagerly anticipated at Cannes for two years. With passions so high to see it, the movie’s debut mirrored the film’s central conflict: a boy trying to live up to the high standards of his harsh father. Only in this case it was Cannes notoriously harsh community of critics and journalists.
“Yes, some booed at Tree of Life‘s end, but a) far more clapped, b) wouldn’t a monobloc of opinion be dull? And, of course, c) jerks abound,” wrote MSN Movies’ James Rocchi.
“The booing at the end of today’s Tree of Life screening was an ugly, animalistic thing that may explain why Malick doesn’t do press,” added IndieWire’s Eric Kohn. CONTINUE READING
Boos or no boos, I cannot wait to see this movie. I think it’s going to be incredible… okay, I HOPE it’s going to be incredible.
Angelina Jolie’s latest tattoo sparked rumors that Brad and Angie had adopted another baby. She revealed a new line of coordinates on her left arm, a spot which until now had been reserved for the coordinates of the birthplaces of her six children.
That was, until now!
“Well if they know that it’s latitude and longitude they would have figured out quickly that it was Brad’s birthplace.” Jolie told Extra on Wednesday. “It’s Shawnee, Oklahoma.”
Jolie – at the Cannes Film Festival promoting her new film Kung Fu Panda 2 – also says there’s no possibility of adopting at this time. However, her movie does deal with the subject of adoption and she was happy to watch it with her kids and talk about it.
“We talk very openly in our house, so ‘orphanage, birth parents,’ are happy words in our house, and it’s not a thing,” Jolie says. “It seemed very normal and they loved it.”
I want to see Cannes pictures of Brad & Angelina! As soon as I get them, I’ll post them right away!
Ooooooooooooooooh what is Court’s BFF Jennifer Aniston going to have to say about THIS! Jennifer is said to be in good terms with Brad, so maybe she doesn’t care that her best friend and ex-husband are out dining together?
Brad Pitt and Courteney Cox were spotted leaving Beso restaurant in Los Angeles last night!! Of course I’m jumping to the conclusion that they were there together, and that’s how I like it. I suppose they both could have accidentally been there at the same time, and just happened to be leaving at around the same time.
Okay, Brad looks sexy as hell in these pictures – don’t know why. He’s looking good! Up next for Brad is ‘Tree of Life’ opposite Sean Penn. Then comes ‘Moneyball’ and he just wrapped up filming ‘Cogan’s Trade’. I’m ready for a new Brad movie! Haven’t seen him since 2009′s ‘Inglourious Basterds’!
