Last week we got our first look at Beyonce on the set of her new music video, and today we have the song itself!
‘Girls (Who Run the World) has leaked online! Produced by Diplo and Switch, the aggressive track samples heavily from Major Lazer’s ‘Pon De Floor’ and finds B singing the praises of ladies who are “smart enough to make these millions, strong enough to bare the children, then get back to business.”
I’m not a fan of the song, but then again, I’m not a fan of Beyonce. Take a listen below – let me know what you think!
Beyonce on the set of her latest music video in Los Angeles, CA today.
Reportedly having flown in 200 African male dancers to appear in the upcoming offering, the “I Am… Sasha Fierce” songstress has been plugging away at a hold-nothing-back video for the song “Girl”.
Aside from her music video efforts, Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles, recently spoke with BlackEnterprise.com about the decision to leave his gig as his daughter’s manager for “strategic” reasons.
“The transition started way before the official announcement,” Knowles revealed. “If you’re strategic, which we are, you don’t make a decision like that before you start dialogue. That dialogue started nine months ago.”
Matthew added, “The decision for Beyonce and Music World Entertainment to part was mutual. We did great things together, and I know that she will continue to conquer new territories in music and entertainment. At the end of the day, I’m Beyonce’s father first and her manager second. Remember, this is 20 years I’ve been doing this. She’s almost 30 years old, and if she says, ‘I want to run my business,’ I think she’s smart enough that she will get the right team.”
“I am grateful for everything he has taught me,” Beyoncé, 29, said in a statement. “I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hardworking entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps.”
“He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly,” her statement continued. “I am grateful for everything he has taught me.”
Mathew, who has overseen all aspects of his daughter’s career since her first foray into entertainment as part of Destiny’s Child in the late ’90s, also emphasized that the decision was purely about business.
“Business is business and family is family,” he said in a separate statement. “I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success.”
I wonder who will take on the task of being Beyonce’s new manager. Any guesses?
In the midst of the political upheaval in Libya, celebs such as Beyonce, Usher, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado have been under major scrutiny for performing for the leader in the past, some for up to $2 million.
Singer Nelly Furtado tweeted on Tuesday that she is planning on donating the $1 million she received in 2007 to charity, and there has been a public outcry for the other entertainers to follow in her footsteps.
Beyonce’s spokesperson, Yvette Noel-Schure, made this statement on behalf of the pop star:
“All monies paid to Beyonce for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year’s Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, over a year ago. Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.”
Both Furtado and Beyonce are the only celebs that have made any statements regarding the performances. Calls to the other performers haven’t been returned.
I often wondered how celebs keep the fire in their relationships, and superstar Beyoncesat down with U.K. edition of Cosmopolitan and gave some trade secrets on how she spices thing up with rapper/mogul hubby Jay-Z, as well as talking about her problem workout areas, what sexy really means, and if she and Jay-Z will be expanding their family in the future.
On Romance
“Put on good music and something that makes you feel great[...]I love a pair of high, sexy stilettos with a beautiful dress.[...]Never be predictable. Mix it up. Surprise him. Change your hair. Be the woman he knows with a little bit of a twist.”
On Self-Image
“I love my butter pecan ice cream but I also love to work out. We all have our issues. Mine is arms and legs, keeping them tight and toned. It takes work, believe me.”
On Family
“Yes, I do want to embrace what happens next and family. It’s funny how your outlook changes as you get older, how you look at life – at other women – in a different way.[...]“I have so much admiration for women who are mothers who balance family and work.”
So does that mean we’ll be seeing some Bey & Jay spawn anytime soon? Hopefully!
Plagued by rumors that they’re about to split, Beyonce and husband Jay-Z took in the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles over the weekend, and they seemed happier than ever!
