Deadline is reporting this morning that Ben Affleck is in talks to join the star-studded, Baz Luhrmann-directed epic ‘The Great Gatsby’.

The actor is in talk to play Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan’s philandering husband.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the film are willing to work around his busy schedule. He’s slated to direct his new film, ‘Argo’ this fall, the same time Luhrman wanted to being ‘Gatsby’.

The impressive cast already includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.

The film will be shot in 3D – in Australia.

I’m nervous about this one. Pros: It’s going to star Leonardo DiCaprio (can do no wrong, in my book) and Carey Mulligan, whom I love. If Ben Affleck signs on – then I’m SOLD! Cons: Baz Luhrman. Lets face it, Chicago Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet are his best movies, and even those are painful to watch at times. Also a con – 3D? If it’s not Avatar, I don’t see the point in 3D. Still seems gimmicky to me.

I guess time will tell!

Reclusive director Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life doesn’t unspool until May 27, but he’s already shot his next film: an untitled romance starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.

The movie with a top secret plot also features Javier Bardem and Olga Kurylenko.

Little is known about the movie, but once I find out I’ll let you know!

Jake Gyllenhaal got a chance to roast ex-girlfriend Natalie Portman at last night’s Palm Springs International Film Awards. The two dated back in 2002, and were rumored to have re-kindled their romance in 2006.

Before awarding Portman, 29, the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Jake Gyllenhaal was unabashed in his praise for his one-time girlfriend, whom he dated briefly in 2006.

“Natalie is the Audrey Hepburn of our generation,” the actor says, “She is elegant, graceful, has amazing eyebrows … is talented, really short, funny, smart, dedicated, incredibly kind.”

But despite her attempts to prove otherwise, no one is perfect, and with Portman’s fiancé, Benjamin Millepied looking, – and laughing – along, Gyllenhaal eventually got around to the “flaws” of the this award season’s it girl.

“She’s a vegan, which makes it really frustrating when you’re picking a place to eat,” Gyllenhaal said with a laugh, before adding, “She’s also recently announced that she’s going to be a mom, and her child will probably need therapy after seeing Black Swan.”

Jennifer Garner, Seraphina and grandma Affleck spent the day shopping in their hometown, Brentwood, CA yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile Ben Affleck picked up daughter Violet from art class. Aren’t they just a stinking cute family!

According to People.com, Ben Affleck lets the little lady do all the Christmas shopping for family and friends.

“I’m not particularly proud of it. But it’s a bit of a ’50s thing, I guess,” Affleck, 38, tells Ellen DeGeneres of the couple’s holiday-shopping arrangements in an interview airing Wednesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Because my wife is so capable and because I’m less so, she does a lot of that work, and I kind of root her on. I’m encouraging.”

Affleck explains that Jennifer Garner, 38, is just an efficient Christmas-shopping machine, while he sits around sputtering over the single gift for which he’s most responsible. (more…)

Ben Affleck appeared at a Casino in West Virginia for their grand opening, but was honest with an overpayment when he received his fee twice — to the tune of $250,000.

Showbiz Spy reports:

According to the National Enquirer, Affleck returned a $250,000 (£166,670) payment to the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, after realising that he had been paid twice for a personal appearance.

Casino owner Jim Justice thanked Affleck, saying: “We mistakenly paid him twice. Fortunately, he called us or we never would have caught it.

“Obviously, we’ve got a few teething problems in our accounts department that we just need to clean up.

“We’re just grateful that Ben Affleck caught the mistake and told us about it. He’s a very honourable man.”

What an honest guy!
