Avril Lavigne will go ahead with her cancelled concert in Malaysia – after winning the approval of the government.
The concert had been axed following protests from a political party which claimed the pop star is “too sexy” to perform in the Muslim country.
The Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry has decided not to permit Lavigne’s show, claiming its content is unsuitable to Malaysian culture on the eve of the country’s Independence Day on August 31st.
But Lavigne has now confirmed she will be performing.
She tells MTV News, “Well, I’ve actually been approved by the government to play a show. I’ve already sold 10,000 tickets there, so I will be going to put on a concert for the fans. They tend to, you know, sometimes not want Western artists in their country. I respect that, but at the same time, you know, there’s people that listen to music there and want to see their idols and stuff, so it’s all good: been approved by the government and I’m going to go put on a show and have fun.”

There could be a slight hiccup in Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne’s upcoming concert tour of Asia — It looks like some folks in Malaysia aren’t too happy with her planned stop-over in the city of Kuala Lumpur.
“It is considered too sexy for us,” explains Kamarulzaman Mohamed, a representative of the country’s Pan-Malaysian Islamic party. “It’s not good for viewers in Malaysia… We don’t want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artists, artists that are good role models.’
Avril had been scheduled to play Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 29, but that date could now be in jeopardy. According to the Associated Press, members of the Culture Ministry will be meeting tomorrow to discuss whether or not to go forward with the concert.

Avril Lavigne has earned $1 million from people watching the video to her hit single Girlfriend online.
The promo has clocked over 100 million hits on video sharing site YouTube.com since it was posted on the internet by RCA record company executives last year – and Lavigne’s earnings have rocketed as a result.
Every time the video is viewed, an advert is played and the singer receives a fee, reports Gigwise.com.

Is Avril Lavigne’s Best Damn Tour cursed?
Before the Complicated singer hit the road earlier this year, she had never had to cancel a single show.
But now the 23-year-old has axed nine in less than two months!
After canceling concerts in San Diego and Phoenix due to a bout of laryngitis, Avril has had to scratch another in Barcelona, Spain, because of a truckers’ strike.
Disaster first struck back on April 30 when her voice went out at a rehearsal before her show at the Cox Arena in San Diego, forcing her to cancel two dates and re-schedule six more.
But the acute laryngitis passed after she got some rest at home, and they got the show back on the road for the European leg.
Now fate has dealt another blow.
Truckers in Spain are blocking major routes into the country as part of an “indefinite” protest against high fuel prices, meaning the star will not be able to make her June 15 concert in Barcelona.
In an email, Barcelona concert promoter Doctor Music tells OK!, “the concert was canceled because of [the unwillingness] of the artist.”
The tour is scheduled to finish in St. John’s, Canada, on August 13. But who knows what will have happened by then!
