Joe Simpson has defended his daughters Ashlee and Jessica and said that they are ‘not failures’. The Simpson patriarch recently saw his younger daughter Ashlee, 25, give her debut performance as Roxie Hart in the Broadway show of Chicago and he said: “We as a family are under a lot [of] pressure.”
He added that people want ‘to make us look bad and want us to fail’. His elder daughter Jessica, 29, has had a tough year as she has been criticized about her weight.
Later she had to mourn the sudden death of her dog Daisy and was dumped just before her birthday by boyfriend Tony Romo.
Ashlee has been looking after her one-year-old son Bronx and she also had to face being fired from CW’s Melrose Place.
Talking about her departure from the show, Joe said: “It was never a loss. The world says whatever it says. [The world], again, always wants to make it look like we’re failures but we’re really just a family that works hard.”

The happy couple seemed to be in good spirits as they shared a laugh walking back to the car. Ashlee, with her newly dyed dark hair, seemed stress free from the latest press drama surrounding her departure from TV show “Melrose Place”.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is all set to make her Broadway debut as she reprises the role of Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago’, it has emerged. According to GossipCop.com, the 25-year-old singer-turned-actress, who played the character in London’s West End in 2006, will begin her six-week Broadway stint next month, reports the Daily Star.
The news comes after Ashlee was axed from the TV show Melrose Place last month. An insider had recently revealed that Ashlee had made up her mind to hang up her mic and focus on her acting career for the sake of her 11-month-old son, Bronx.
“She’s reading scripts. Acting is her focus now. If she had an album, she’d have to tour and be away from Bronx. She wants consistency,” Contactmusic had quoted the source, as saying.

Pete Wentz is throwing a ‘Spongebob Squarepants’-themed party for his son.
The Fall Out Boy rocker’s son Bronx Mowgli celebrates his first birthday later this month and the musician and wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz are planning to incorporate the tot’s current obsession into their celebrations.
Pete said: “We got the one-year birthday coming up which is going to be pretty awesome. I think we’re going to go ‘Spongebob’.”
Bronx developed his love for the animated ocean-dwelling sponge because of giant pictures the couple have in their home.
Pete explained: “We have these giant ‘Spongebob’ paintings in our house and I said, ‘Spongebob’ a couple times when we were walking by it. Now Bronx has to stop every time we walk by and he says, ‘Bob.’ ”
However, Pete’s revelations are delighted to disappoint his manager – who thinks Bronx keeps saying ‘Bob’ because it is his name.
The rocker added: “I swear to God he thinks Bronx says ‘Bob’ because of him and I don’t want to break his heart!”

Looks like there’s one less “Melrose Place” mystery. Sure, fans are still scratching their heads about that whole “who killed Sydney Andrews?” thing, but at least those wondering why Ashlee Simpson-Wentz recently got the axe have their answer. According to on-set sources, the sometimes-singer-sometimes-actress was just plain awful as the show’s not-so-naïve Violet Foster.
“They hired her because they needed a good name to help create buzz,” one source revealed to Us Weekly. “But she was embarrassingly bad. Producers cut her down as much as possible.”
Allegedly producers finally realized that the only way to cope with Simpson-Wentz’s particular brand of bad acting was to cut her out of the show altogether. It’s a move that would have only come as a surprise to Simpson-Wentz herself, as another “Melrose” insider revealed the actress never realized she had a problem.
“She’s the worst actress, but nobody will tell her,” the insider said.
