Anne Hathaway Threw A Fit Over Amanda Seyfried’s Oscar Dress

Wanna know what and caused a panicked Anne Hathaway to ditch her planned Valentino gown in favor of a Prada creation at the Oscars? Here ya go…

An insider close to the situation tells Us Hathaway learned during an Oscar rehearsal that costar Amanda Seyfried planned to wear a dress notably similar to hers to the ceremony. After Hathaway asked about her pal’s dress, Seyfried graciously shared an iPhone snap of the Alexander McQueen creation.

“Anne was like ‘WTF?!’” the source reports. “She started throwing a fit!” The 30-year-old Best Supporting Actress victor, however, “never told Amanda she had to change the dress.” Still, Seyfried, 27, was ruffled by Hathaway’s tirade. “Amanda didn’t want to deal with it and left” the rehearsal, the source notes.

But, the drama continues…”Anne made the fashion, make up, hair, and jewelry teams wait at her home for hours as she decided what to do about the dress debacle,” a second insider tells Us. The star also “asked for silence so she could rehearse her singing for the Les Mis tribute at the Oscars. It was a painfully long experience.”

Oh my goodness. Anne isn’t winning any more fans this way, is she?

Anne Hathaway releases apology over last-minute dress change

I think this whole Anne Hathaway-dress-fiasco is getting a bit out of control. Who cares, right?

A little background. Anne and Valentino have had a long-standing relationship. He designed her wedding dress, and also designed the dress she had arranged to wear to the Oscars on Sunday. Rumor has it – when Anne saw a picture of the dress that Amanda Seyfried was going to wear, she had a change of heart. (Apparently Amanda’s dress was similar to the Valentino gown she was going to wear.)

Anyhoo, Valentino had sent out a press release before the Oscars, saying he was dressing Anne, Jennifer Aniston and Sally Field. Then Anne showed up in Prada….. duh – duh – duuuuuuuuuuuuuh.

“I didn’t know what I was wearing until two hours ago,” Hathaway told E! News of her gown switcheroo on Sunday. “I tried on a ton of dresses and, at the end of the day, I loved the simplicity of it. And this sounds weird, but I’m 30 and I feel 30 in this, and that’s a very positive thing.”

(At the same time, she also said the dress was “business in the front, party in the back,” proving one can have one’s cake and wear it too.)

While last-minute wardrobe changes happen often in Hollywood, some critics interpreted the swap as the actress insulting Valentino, who designed her wedding dress and dressed her for the 2011 Oscars. “We thought they were best friends!” wrote the U.K. Daily Mail, while Refinery29 stated the “real Oscar snub” was Hathaway “ditching” the iconic Italian fashion designer.

That chatter may have been why the A-lister felt prompted to release an official apology on Tuesday afternoon.

“It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans,” the actress said in a statement, according to PEOPLE magazine. “Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”

No further mention was made of the “similar” dress in question, but Fashionista sources claim it may have been Amanda Seyfried’s Alexander McQueen lace gown, which looks rather like a Valentino couture gown from Spring 2013. Neither Valentino nor Hathaway’s stylist, Rachel Zoe, have publicly commented yet.

Hathaway’s apology comes amid other reports that the actress was sensitive to criticism following her Oscar win. Speaking to reporters backstage after winning for Best Supporting Actress, Hathaway admitted to feeling hurt by those who said she seemed insincere and too earnest in her acceptance speech.

“It does get to me,” she said, according to Us Weekly. “But you have to remember in life that there’s a positive to every negative and a negative to every positive.”

Here are some new pictures of Anne leaving an office in Los Angeles this afternoon.

Anne Hathaway’s disastrous pink Prada Oscar’s dress EXPLAINED

Anne Hathaway pretty unanimously wore one of Sunday night’s least favorite dresses. The pink satin Prada dress with the bizarre darting around the nipple area, was a disaster. Thing is – it wasn’t even her first choice. Turns out the Oscar winner had a Valentino dress picked out – up until the very last minute. In fact, Valentino’s people had already released a press statement saying Anne would be wearing their gown.

RELATED: Maybe Anne Hathaway just has a thing for pink?

So what happened? According to E! Anne decided at the last minute to ditch her Valentino gown and wear the Prada one instead because she was concerned Amanda Seyfreid’s Alexander McQueen gown.

When it comes to selecting the Oscar gown, it’s no surprise that quite a bit of careful analysis goes into the strategic style selection. After all, an Oscar dress on a nominee, let alone a winner, will forever be remembered in history.

So upon seeing Anne Hathaway in a blush-pink Prada design on last night’s red carpet, we couldn’t help but wonder what happened to her trademark Valentino couture loyalty. After all, the star has consistently worn the designer on countless red carpets, and even had Mr. Valentino design her wedding dress months ago.

More peculiarly, Valentino even sent out a confirmation press release earlier in the afternoon declaring that the Les Misérables actress would be donning a design from the house, and shortly thereafter Fashion Police’s George Kotsiopoulos predicted on-air during the E! Oscars preshow that she’d wear an ivory embellished gown with a high neckline by the designer.

So what happened?

A source close to the actress confirms to E! News that shortly before Hathaway stepped out on the red carpet she learned that Amanda Seyfried’s Alexander McQueen Oscar gown was strikingly similar to her selected Valentino design, and opted for the Prada dress last minute.

A quick side-by-side comparison shows that both pale gowns were embellished with beautiful delicate floral embroidery—perhaps a little too close for comfort, in the opinion of the Oscar winner.

Hathaway explained to E!’s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that she “didn’t know what I was wearing until about three hours ago,” and said her work schedule was to blame. “This is the one that spoke to me in the end.”

Now I want to know what Anne’s OTHER dress looked like!

Oscars 2013 Red Carpet Photos: Part 3!

Anne Hathaway would make my worst-dressed list, if I had a worst-dressed list. I didn’t care for her dress AT ALL. She wore a light pink Prada dress, that in my opinion, did her no favors. The top of the dress resembled an apron (so says my mom), and the fit around her boobs was just bizarre. I don’t like that she paired it with a necklace, either. The back was better than the front, but it still wasn’t one of my favorites. Like Amanda Seyfried, if your skin is THAT pale, I think going with darker colors looks much better. You just get washed out when you wear pale on pale.

Sandra Bullock wore this beautiful Elie Saab Couture gown. I thought it looked beautiful on her – does this woman age!? I wish she had pulled her hair up, but other than that, she looked great.

Jennifer Lawrence wore head-to-toe Dior. I loved her look. I thought she looked absolutely gorgeous. I thought she had one of the best pieces of jewelry there last night! Love the swooping backwards necklace!

Stacy Keibler had another one of my favorite dresses of the night. Her Naeem Khan gown was absolutely GORGEOUS. She looked stunning. George Clooney (see below) looked handsome as ever…..and also looked like he’s aged about 10 years in the last year. One of my friends remarked that George has stayed with Stacy longer than anyone in the past. I’m not sure if that’s true, but he’s certainly been with Stacy for a while! And looking like THIS in a dress certainly helps keep you around for a while! She looked GOOD!

I LOVED Nicole Kidman’s black and gold L’Wren Scott gown. I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. I love the black-on-gold look. She looked flawless (except for her nose….did anyone else notice her nose??).

Kristen Stewart hobbled on the red carpet last night, wearing a pale blush strapless Reem Acra Couture gown. Kristen was a HOT MESS last night. At first I just couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t hold herself together, but this morning we’re getting more info on why she may have seen more “off” than usual. More on that later! Back to her look. I didn’t like this dress for her. I just thought the fit was weird, and if it makes any sense – I thought the dress made her look “puffy” – heavier than normal. She had bruises up and down her arms (can’t see in this picture) and her hair LITERALLY looked like she had just crawled out of bed. I thought her look could have been better.

Jennifer Hudson wore this blue Roberto Cavalli gown last night. It also, wasn’t one of my favorites. The dress looked like scales to me (maybe that was the idea?). Sidenote: Jennifer’s performance of “You’re Gonna Love Me” was probably the best performance of the night! Gave me goosebumps!

Zoe Saldana wore this gorgeous black and white ruffled Alexis Mabille Couture gown last night. At first look I didn’t like it much, but the more I stared at it – the more I liked it. I especially love the ruffles on the bottom. I think she looked hot!

Kerry Washington wore this head-turning Miu Miu gown last night. It was again, nice to see some color! I loved the whole look. Very good choice!

The beautiful Hugh Jackman and his longtime wife practically wore the same outfit to the Oscars. I love him, and I love her, and I love that they’re still together and hot for each other…. but I’ve never understood her fashion choices.
