Angelina Jolie’s PSA: “Do One Thing”

Angelina Jolie, who is Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has just released a public service announcement, in advance of World Refugee Day on June 20.

Jolie urges everyone to “Do One Thing” to help refugees.

The PSA begins, “Every day thousands of people run from war, persecution and terror. Even one it too many. 1 family forced to flee is too many. 1 child growing up in a camp is too many. 1 refugee without hope is too many. Do 1 thing.”

SEE IT HERE! Angelina Jolie’s FIRST Louis Vuitton ad!

Here is the very first look at Angelina Jolie’s Louis Vuitton ad campaign! Several months ago it was announced that the Oscar winner had signed a $10 million contract with Vuitton.

Shortly after signing, Angelina flew to Cambodia where photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the campaign.

WWD was the first to get their hands on the new ad, and here’s part of the interview that went along:

She’s barefoot, wearing her own clothes, no makeup and toting her own elegantly weathered monogrammed Alto bag. Yet Angelina Jolie looks radiant and completely in her element, reclining on a wooden boat in a verdant, lakeside landscape in Cambodia’s Siem Reap province. Jolie discovered the country in 2000 when she filmed “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” and it sparked her humanitarian activism.

She’s the latest celebrity to pose for Louis Vuitton’s popular “Core Values” campaign — and surely the only one who brought four children to the photo shoot, some of whom had to be shooed out of Annie Leibovitz’s frame.

“People are not used to seeing Angelina in this situation,” said Pietro Beccari, Vuitton’s executive vice president, unveiling the image exclusively to WWD. “I like the fact that it’s a real moment. This travel message we give through personal journeys is a fundamental one for the brand.”

The ad is slated to break in the International Herald Tribune on Wednesday, followed by a range of news, general interest and lifestyle publications, including Vanity Fair.

Beccari declined to disclose budgets for the media buy, or comment on reports Vuitton paid the American actress millions for the shoot. He would only say Jolie donated an undisclosed portion of her fees to a charity.

The campaign is expected to run for at least 18 months alongside a few other recent “core values” personalities, including Bono and Sean Connery. Vuitton introduced the advertising concept in 2007 as a way to trumpet its travel roots and showcase its perennial monogrammed leather goods as a balance to its fashion-driven marketing — and to reach a broader audience. Other personalities who have posed for Vuitton include Mikhail Gorbachev, Keith Richards and Catherine Deneuve.

Also on Wednesday, Vuitton plans to post a teaser on its Web site, louisvuittonjourneys.com/cambodia, foreshadowing an interview with Jolie that will be posted later in the month. In it, she is expected to discuss how her visit to Cambodia was a life-changing experience, awakening her to the plight of Third World countries. She adopted her eldest son, Maddox, from Cambodia and she and husband Brad Pitt established the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which is active in community development and conservation in the country.

“This campaign is about a very special person and a very special journey,” Beccari said.

And a storied handbag. Beccari showed off several paparazzi shots of Jolie toting the Alto carryall, which is believed to be at least six years old. The style is no longer in production, but “we are considering to re-edit it,” Beccari noted.

I think Angelina looks stunning. It’s a beautiful ad!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donate $500,000 in tornado relief!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $500,000 to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to help with cleanup following last month’s tornadoes in Missouri.

Brad is a native of Missouri, and at one point lived in Joplin! The couple were deeply touched by the natural disaster, and were moved to help. They both released a statement:

“With the devastating loss of thirty percent of the city, the Joplin community faces great challenges ahead. Having spent much of my childhood there, I know these people to be hardworking, humble and especially resilient. The locally based Community Foundation of the Ozarks will be working shoulder to shoulder with these Joplin residents for the long haul as they rebuild their lives. We, too, hope to further help with these rebuilding efforts.” – Brad

“Last year 42 million people worldwide were displaced by natural disasters. So often these disasters seem far away, but now the need is for thousands of people displaced right here at home. Our hearts go out to the families in Joplin who have lost so much.” – Angelina

Angelina Jolie to star in ‘Salt’ remake!

Sony Pictures is moving forward on its much speculated Salt sequel. Kurt Wimmer has begun writing it for Angelina Jolie to reprise her role as Evelyn Salt, the CIA agent who spent the first movie running for her life after being outed as a Russian spy. The studio smartly left open a window for a possible sequel at the climax of the original, which was directed by Phillip Noyce.

Now, Universal Pictures tried to draft a sequel of Wanted and it didn’t happen. This is different. Jolie wants to do to do the Salt sequel if it comes together right. I’m told that Wimmer has officially signed on and is working away. The original grossed around $300 million worldwide for Sony Pictures.

Angelina Jolie doesn’t want to portray Cleopatra as a sex symbol, because she wasn’t.

I was reading this article in the Huffington Post, and they are saying that Angelina Jolie is the new Elizabeth Taylor. I just don’t know what I think about that. Do we think Angelina could even hold a candle to Liz?

As Hollywood knows more than ever these days, the same stories are continuously recycled, told over and over, directly or thematically, with new context and stars. Sequels, remakes and updates are the norm now, in both movies and stars.

Beyond even its most beloved, lucrative franchises and properties, Hollywood treasures its proven leading ladies; even more so than established characters, its top lining women have the ability to inspire generations of moviegoers and dreamers. And at the top of that list, in rarified air, is the torch once held by the late Elizabeth Taylor, the headline maker both on screen and off. To many, Angelina Jolie is the recipient of that torch, her generation’s Liz Taylor.

The comparisons between the two are many: the talent, the looks, the steamy co-star romances. It’s a fine guiding light for Jolie to have — to follow in the footsteps of the most famous actress ever — but she’s also synthesizing one of Taylor’s biggest professional missteps in an attempt to avoid the same famous pitfall when their stars brush closer than ever.

Angelina is set to star as Cleopatra in director David Fincher’s take on the classic film, ‘Cleopatra’. Elizabeth Taylor once said starring in the movie her “greatest disappointment.”

“She has been very misunderstood,” Jolie told the Telegraph about the famous queen. “I thought it was all about the glamour, but then I read about her and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader.”

As such, Jolie says that she’ll play Cleopatra with that brains over beauty bent, even if it means the character isn’t quite as alluring as Taylor’s portrayal.

“My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth’s,” Jolie said. ‘We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, because she really wasn’t. Even this idea of her having many lovers – it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn’t a great beauty.”

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie step out in Los Angeles for an afternoon of shopping!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stepped out yesterday afternoon for a day of shopping. They stopped by Ozzie Dots, which is a party supply store. Maybe they’re buying party favors for Shiloh’s birthday? Their daughter turns 5 on Friday!

Angelina, who signed a $10 million contract with Louis Vuitton, is carrying a LV bag.
