Angelina Jolie has given birth to a son and daughter in Nice, France with partner Brad Pitt her side.

The actress delivered her twins by Caesarian section at the Fondation Lenval hospital on Saturday.

The twins, baby girl Vivienne Marcheline, after Jolie’s late mother Marcheline Bertrand, and baby boy Knox Leon, weighed 5 pounds and 5 pounds 3 ounces respectively.

Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr Michael Sussmann, is said to have told reporters the operation, which was slated for Tuesday, had to be moved forward “for medical reasons”.

Sussmann tells People.com, “The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly. Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

He adds, “The mother and father are very, very happy.”

Jolie and actor partner Pitt are already parents to adopted children Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and biological daughter Shiloh, 2.

Angelina Jolie will deliver her twins on Tuesday, according to French reports.

Sources at the Lenval Hospital in Nice, where the actress will give birth, have revealed Jolie will be induced on Tuesday.

Medics were initially planning the delivery on Monday, but that falls on France’s Bastille Day holiday.

Sources reveal that Jolie is keen to give birth.

One insider says, “She can’t wait to give birth because she can’t stand the hospital food, and she is fed up to be in this hospital room. If she could be induced earlier she would love it, but the medical team think it’s medically better to wait until next Tuesday.”

Gaining photographs of Angelina Jolie’s new twins will be “totally impossible” for the paparazzi, it has been claimed.

The Tomb Raider star recently checked into the Lenval hospital in Nice, France (seen above), ahead of the birth of her two new children.

But according to a hospital spokeswoman, tabloid photographers will not be able to secure a lucrative picture of the actress with her babies.

The windows of the clinic have been coated with a special material which prevents camera lenses from penetrating the glass.

And according to spokeswoman Nadine Bauer, recently-published pictures of Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt, seemingly in their hospital room, were “posed fakes”.

A statement released by the hospital added: “Any pictures released are either posed fakes set up by paparazzi or they are pictures of other patients.

“We hope this is clearly understood out of respect for all patients in this clinic.”

Christian Estrosi, the Mayor of Nice, this week expressed his delight at Jolie and partner Brad Pitt’s choosing of his city as the birthplace for their new arrivals.

“That is for the citizens of Nice a very great honor and a great satisfaction,” he explained.

“We are very happy for this choice of Mrs Angelina Jolie and Mr Brad Pitt and I want to say to them that I wish a lot of joy to them and the babies, and great success for all of their lives.”

Jolie and Pitt are already parents to four children together: adopted children Maddox, six, four-year-old Pax Thien and Zahara, three, as well as biological daughter Shiloh, 20 months.

More than a month after reporting that Angelina Jolie had given birth to twins, Entertainment Tonight finally admitted on its website Thursday that it had “been given false information about the birth.”

It had not mentioned Jolie’s name since reports appeared in early June alleging that ET had been duped by a person passing herself off as the actress’s assistant, Holly Goline.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have officially been welcomed to Nice, France – where they’ll become parents again – by the city’s Mayor.

Heavily pregnant Jolie checked herself into Lenval hospital on Sunday and Mayor Christian Estrosi could not be happier that she and partner Pitt have chosen his city as the birthplace of their twins.

Insisting the new arrivals will always be considered honorary “Nicois”, Mayor Estrosi says, “(This is) a very great honor and a great satisfaction. We are very happy for this choice of Ms. Angelina Jolie and Mr. Brad Pitt and I want to say to them that I wish a lot of joy to them and the babies, and great success for all of their lives (sic).

“All their lives they will be Nicois and all their life they will be able to come to Nice and we will receive them with great honor.”

Angelina Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, assured the press at a news conference in the South of France Wednesday that all is well with the expectant mom – something that she and Brad Pitt want the world to know.

“Everything is normal,” the obstetrician said in French, as he also said in English, “She is very well, and she’s okay. … Brad and Angelina want everyone to know that everything is going well.”

The babies, he said, will arrive “in the weeks to come.”

Jolie, who is expecting twins, checked into the medical center this weekend. On Wednesday, Pitt dropped by with two special guests: daughters Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2.

“It is simply a visit of surveillance, no birth,” Sussmann said of his patient.

Saying that Jolie’s “very, very nice,” the doctor added, “She will stay in the hospital until the birth. I will stay with her.”

What he was not specific about was the due date. “This is something you can’t program, you never know for sure,” he said.

A French magazine reported on its website Wednesday morning that Angelina Jolie has given birth to her twins. She and Brad Pitt have been holed up in the South of France since May, having recently moved into Chateau Miraval with their four kids.

Angelina has “reportedly” given birth before, with “Entertainment Tonight” claiming she did a month ago and refusing to back down. But, Brad Pitt has traveled a lot since, doubtful if he had two preemie twins at home, and In Touch has pictures of a still-pregnant Jolie last week.
