Angelina Jolie’s Twins Conceived Through In Vitro!

jolie-pitt-cover-b.jpg

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt turned to fertility treatments to quickly conceive twins Knox and Vivienne.

“They conceived through in vitro fertilization,” a well-placed source within their camp tells Us. “They both desperately wanted more babies soon.”

The chance of having fraternal twins at Angelina’s age (33) naturally is under 1 percent; with in vitro, the chances are 25 percent. Says Dr. Arthur Wisot of L.A.’s Reproductive Medical Group (who did not treat the couple), “We live in an era of reproductive freedom, so anybody can do anything they want within legal limits.”

The actress chose the procedure (which can cost around $12,000 a pop) so “she wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant,” the source tells Us. “She could just knock it out.”

Indeed, Jolie has spoken about her goal to do just that.

“If we’re going to have 10 kids, we’d like to raise them while we’re young,” she told Elle U.K. last year. Brad Pitt turns 45 on December 18.

A source adds: “They were too impatient.”

Knox and Vivienne – born in Nice, France on July 12 – join the couple’s adopted brood of Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and biological daughter Shiloh, 2.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie bring the twins home

Brat Pitt & Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has left hospital in France – fooling the paparazzi to bring her newborn twins home without interruption.

Jolie gave birth to son Knox Leon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline by Caesarian section at the Fondation Lenval hospital in France on Saturday.

And after a brief stay, the Hollywood actress and her partner Brad Pitt left the medical center early on Saturday morning – slipping out the back entrance to avoid the crowds of photographers awaiting the couple’s departure.

A statement from hospital officials has thanked the pair for choosing to host the birth there.

It reads, “Mrs (sic) Angelina Jolie left the clinic Santa Maria of Fondation Lenval early in the morning, on July 19. The mother and her babies are doing very well. The general management of Lenval and Santa Maria want to thank the team for the attention and care they pay to the family, and those of the journalists around the hospital who did their best to respect their privacy.”
The twins are the fifth and sixth additions to Jolie and Pitt’s family – the couple has three adopted children, Maddox, six, Pax, four, three year old Zahara, and biological daughter Shiloh, two.

Big Sister!

sm30cover.jpg

She’s a big sister now! And Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was on her best — and sweetest — behavior when she was introduced to her new twin siblings the day after their emotional delivery on July 12.

As her weary parents, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, beamed with pride, the wide-eyed 2-year-old greeted tiny brother Knox Leon and sister Vivienne Marcheline with smiles and kisses.

“They weren’t planning on having Shiloh see Angie and the babies so soon, but she couldn’t sleep or eat until she saw her Mommy,” an insider tells Star.

As Angie, 33, held the newborns, Shiloh first stared then smiled. She was put on the bed next to them and kissed them on the forehead.

Angelina & twins are doing great

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt

Two days after giving birth to twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, Angelina Jolie is “doing great,” a rep for the actress tells OK!.

“Mother and children are healthy and doing great,” a rep tells OK!.

Angelina is currently resting at Nice’s Lenval Hospital, where she is expected to remain for up to the next week.

“I think that Mrs Jolie will remain hospitalized [for] seven or ten days”, the actress’ OB/GYN, Dr. Michel Sussman, tells Nice-Martin newspaper.

“You know, in Europe it isn’t like in the United States, where the patients go home after three days,” the doctor said during a press conference yesterday. “They will stay a bit longer until everything is okay.”

Although Angelina wasn’t scheduled to deliver for a few more weeks, the Cesarean section was moved up to Saturday for medical reasons.

“We decided Saturday morning to advance the date of the childbirth of ten days for reasons of comfort for the mom,” Dr. Sussmann said. “And finally, it was the good choice. The babies are splendid.”

The operation took “30 minutes at most” and Dr. Sussmann received some help from “assistant” Brad Pitt in the delivery room.

Knox arrived first at 6:27 p.m., as shown on his birth certificate Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi displayed on Sunday, and sister Vivienne arrived a minute later. Knox tipped the scales at 5.03 lbs while Vivienne clocked in slightly less at 5 lbs. even.

While they’re healthy, the newborns need to remain hospitalized to gain weight. The 33-year-old new mom also needs precautionary “medical attention” as this was her second C-section in two years (she delivered Shiloh via C-section as well).

“It is necessary,” Dr. Sussmann says.

No worries though — everyone is still doing well.

“The babies are fine,” he said. “The babies are with the mother and father and they are fine.”

Why Angelina Jolie Named Her Twins Knox and Vivienne

bradpitt_angelinajolie_kids_nov06_400.jpg

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt “have proven once again that they are the leaders in original baby-naming, even by Hollywood standards,” baby name expert Pamela Redmond Satran, coauthor of Cool Names and The Baby Name Bible, tells Usmagazine.com.

The actress, 33, gave birth to twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France on Saturday.

“Vivienne is the French version of the ancient Latin name that means ‘alive,’” Satran explains. A common English variation is Vivian, which was the name of Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman.

Except for Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter Vivienne, the name “has not been on the fashion scope in the U.S.,” Satran adds.

Jolie and Pitt’s choice of Knox will boost its popularity among new parents, Satran predicts, “the same way they have with all their other children’s names.”

Knox – Pitt’s grandfather’s middle name – also “matches” big brothers Maddox and Pax as a name that ends in X, Satran points out.

As for middle names, Marcheline was the name of Jolie’s mother, who died of cancer last year, while Leon is Jolie’s great-great grandfather’s name.

Satran gives Jolie and Pitt credit for their name choices.

“I applaud Brad and Angelina for being truly creative in a way that many other parents – celebrities and the rest of us – claim they want to be but aren’t brave or individualistic enough to really achieve,” she says.

Jon Voight delighted with Jolie-Pitt twins

Jon Voight

Angelina Jolie’s actor father Jon Voight has spoken of his joy at the birth of her twins, confessing he is “deeply happy” with the news.

The actress delivered her babies by Caesarian section at the Fondation Lenval hospital in France on Saturday.

The twins, named Vivienne Marcheline, after Jolie’s late mother Marcheline Bertrand, and Knox Leon, weighed 5 pounds and 5 pounds 3 ounces respectively.

Grandfather Voight, who recently made up with his superstar daughter after a six-year feud, can’t wait to receive the call inviting him to meet the newborn tots.

He tells The Insider, “I’m over the moon – it’s magnificent. In this world, all we can hope for is that mommy and the kids are healthy. I’m very excited. If I were called today, I’d be there.”

Earlier this year, Voight, who upset his daughter after telling reporters she had “severe emotional problems”, promised he would conduct their relationship privately, saying, “If we try to have any relationship in the future, we do it quietly”.

Brad Pitt cut his twins’ umbilical cords

Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie laughed with joy as her newborn twins were delivered and partner Brad Pitt cut their umbilical cords, according to reports.

The couple, who welcomed son Knox Leon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline on Saturday were together and “calm” during the delivery, with their doctor joking how Pitt “was my assistant.”

The actress delivered her twins by Caesarian section at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, and there were “absolutely no problems” with the birth.

Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr Michael Sussman, tells People.com, “It was an epidural, so (Angelina) was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy. He (Pitt) was … perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional.”

And when asked how long Jolie was expected to stay in hospital for, he said, “I don’t know. She will stay for a few days. You know, in Europe it isn’t like in the United States, where the patients go home after three days. They will stay a bit longer until everything is okay. The babies are fine. The babies are with the mother and father and they are fine.”

The first pictures of the tots have reportedly been sold for $11 million to an as-yet-unnamed U.S. magazine. The couple intend to donate the money to charity.
