Natalie Cole says Amy Winehouse’s wins send a bad message

Natalie Cole

Natalie Cole is speaking out about Amy Winehouse’s five Grammy wins last night, saying that Amy is sending out a bad message.

“I don’t think she should have won. I think it sends a bad message to our young people who are trying to get into this business, the ones who are trying to do it right and really trying to keep themselves together,” said Cole, 58. “We have to stop rewarding bad behavior.”

Of Winehouse, 24, who is currently in rehab in England, Cole says: “I’m sorry. I think the girl is talented, gifted, but it’s not right for her to be able to have her cake and eat it too. She needs to get herself together.”

On the seriousness of Winehouse’s troubles, Cole – who over the years has battled her own substance-abuse problems, successfully – observes, “I mean, she could die. This isn’t something that’s cute and fun just to throw around in the press. The girl really has a problem, and I think for those of us who have been in the business long enough, we know the sacrifice it takes. This is about discipline and hard work, and you don’t get to just do your drugs and go onstage and get rewarded.”

In all, Winehouse won five Grammys – including record of the year, song of the year and best new artist. She also rocked the crowd inside Los Angeles’s Staples Center with a live-via-satellite rendition of “You Know I’m No Good” and “Rehab.”

“Her performance was fine,” surmised Cole. “I don’t take anything away from her talent, but I just feel like she’s stepping into a place that she hasn’t earned yet.”

As for whom Cole, whose new jazz CD will be out in August, would have lavished with Grammy gold, the singer replied, “Rihanna, even Beyoncé. “I just feel like they’re ready to go the long haul. You can tell how hard they work, they’re great people, their heart is in the right place. These are the people we should be praising, these are the people we should be encouraging.”

She added, “And the others, we need to help them.”

Blake Fielder-Civil begs Amy Winehouse not to leave him, in a letter

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has cut all ties with his family in an attempt to prove his love and dedication to his wife. Blake, who is currently incarcerated at London’s Pentonville Prison. reduced Amy to tears with a handwritten note begging her not to leave him.

Sources say that Amy was furious with Blake after he revealed all about their relationship, via his mother Georgette, to a British tabloid last Sunday. In the interview, Blake revealed how he had warned Amy that she’d be dead within three months if she didn’t check herself into rehab, and also admitted that Amy had fallen asleep on several occasions when she came to visit him.

But in a heartfelt two-page apology to Winehouse, Fielder-Civil claims to have disowned his family to show how willing he is to save their nine-month marriage.

He says:

“Baby, oh darling. Please don’t leave me Amy. I’m so worried that now you’re thinking straight you’ll realize I’m not worthy of you… I’ll do anything to show you my heart and loyalty is with you… “Me and my family are finished for good. No visits, phone calls, nothing. I love my new family and can’t wait to show them I’m not just a f**king loser and that I can look after their daughter. “Your (sic) family now, if you’ll all have me. Pls (please) don’t leave me Amy, pls.”

Amy Winehouse gets her U.S. visa after all!

Amy Winehouse

The U.S. government has reversed its decision and is saying “yes, yes, yes” to granting Amy Winehouse a visa for Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

But because of the tight timing, reps for the nominee say she’s going to stick to her plan to perform live via satellite from London.

“Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be coming to the U.S. this weekend to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles, however she will still be performing via satellite broadcast from London as previously announced this morning,” her U.S. rep says in a statement.

The statement adds: “Amy would like to thank all of those people, and in particular the staff involved at the U.S. Embassy in London, who have all worked so hard to expedite her application. She is very sad not to be attending the prestigious awards in person, but wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to all of those involved in the process.”

Amy Winehouse will not perform at the Grammy Awards this weekend because she’s been refused permission to touch down on American soil, according to her publicist

“The singer has been invited to appear at the event on Sunday after receiving an amazing six nominations for the prestigious awards,” reads a statement issued by her publicist on Thursday. “Unfortunately, her application for a visa to enter the United States of America has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy in London.

“Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago, and although disappointed with the decision, has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery,” the statement continues. “Amy has been treated well and fairly by the Embassy staff and thanks everyone for their support in trying to make this happen. There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future.”

Amy Winehouse has been admitted to a drug rehabilitation facility, it has been confirmed.

The singer sought help at an undisclosed location following months of well documented problems battling substance abuse.

Winehouse, 24, sought help after her father, Mitch, admitted her family have looked into getting her sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

“Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors,” Universal Music Group said in a statement.

“She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction,” the statement said.
