The decision to exercise an early extension comes as Jimmy Kimmel has received positive attention for his “Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night” series of post-NBA Finals specials, which included a now-famous fist bump Sunday with presidential candidate Barack Obama. Rival candidate John McCain was scheduled to appear on Kimmel’s show following Tuesday’s NBA game.
Those “Game Night” specials have averaged 3 million viewers, giving the show a bit more exposure than its usual aud.
Kimmel also scored quite a bit of attention earlier this year thanks to the show’s “I’m F***ing Matt Damon” video short, featuring Kimmel girlfriend Sarah Silverman — and his response, “I’m F***ing Ben Affleck.”
Like all latenight talkers, “Kimmel” took a ratings hit this season — blamed on the writers strike. But “Kimmel” took less of a hit than his rivals. Show averaged 1.7 million viewers in the just-completed TV season, down just 4% from the year before (1.8 million). All other latenight talkers suffered double-digit declines.
Also, “Kimmel” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” for the first time in viewers (by a slim margin — 1.727 million vs. 1.725 million) and came within 184,000 viewers of NBC’s “Late Night With Conan O’Brien (1.727 million vs. 1.911 million).
Kimmel and Jill Leiderman exec produce “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which comes from Jackhole Industries and ABC Studios. Talker bowed in January 2003.

Shocking, I know.
An insider says that the romance between The Bachelor: London Calling’s Matt Grant and his final rose recipient, Shayne Lamas, is over.
“She asked him to leave her apartment in Studio City,” says the insider. “They’re just pretending to still be together to save face for the show.”
However, Matt insists the couple is still engaged and still together — although he admits he did move into his own bachelor pad in the Valley. “I was at her place for a few weeks, but it was a small apartment,” Matt tells In Touch. “It’s obviously a testing time for us as a couple, so it just seemed that it’d be great for us to have our own little space. We didn’t want to be on top of each other early on.”
Matt also says that Shayne didn’t kick him out of her apartment. “It wasn’t like she said, ‘You’ve got to get out!’ — that’d be a bit too much,” says Matt. “It was just an agreement.”
So what does he have to say about recent reports that he was seen “flirting with a Shayne look-alike” while hanging with his buddies at The Village Idiot and that Shayne was “not wearing her ring and acting very single” while hanging out with actor Evan Ross at the Kiss Lounge opening on May 30? “It doesn’t mean we were doing anything, you know what I mean?” Matt says. “She’s allowed to have her friends and I’m allowed to have mine — the trust is there.”
If anything, the Bachelor says that moving out has been good for his relationship with Shayne. “It’s definitely taken the pressure off and made us a lot more stable,” he says. Matt proposed to Shayne on the show’s season finale.

I wonder how much ABC’s paying him to stand by her!?
From People:
He gave her the rose and an engagement ring, and she surprised him with a photo spread in Girls Gone Wild magazine. But Bachelor star Matt Grant says he has no problem with fiancée Shayne Lamas’s revealing pictures.
“As we English say, I really feel it was ‘a storm in a teacup,’ ” Grant tells PEOPLE. “I believe it was blown out of all proportion. I stand by Shayne 110 percent.”
There was a flurry of media appearances after Grant got down on one knee to propose to Lamas on the season finale of The Bachelor: London Calling, but silence after the announcement of the GGW photo spread on the following Tuesday. The pictures in the issue out June 3 show no nudity, but in one shot Lamas is shown wearing little more than a smile and a wedding veil.
Grant says the couple are also brushing off media speculation that they’re having problems in their relationship.
“We sit down together and just laugh off all the ridiculous stories that get thrown our way,” Grant says. “All things considered we are doing really well.”
The two are living in Lamas’ Studio City condominium and Grant says they are working out their new life. “We have the normal pressures of any couple, but then we have even more added pressures being that we are a reality TV couple, and that I’m leaving my life, friends and family in England to be with her.”
He adds: “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind.”

DON’T READ AHEAD IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED!
On Sunday’s season finale of Desperate Housewives, the show flashed ahead five years.
The highlights:
–Susan (Teri Hatcher) apparently isn’t wed to Mike (James Denton) anymore. She is seen entering her house and calling out, “Honey, I’m home” — to a mystery man!
–Bree (Marcia Cross) is a star caterer and author of a cookbook. She also is back on with her husband Orson (Kyle MacLachlan).
–Gaby (Eva Longoria) is now a mom: Her two little girls are seen playing with her makeup and her clothes.
– One of Lynette’s (Felicity Huffman) twins, who are now teens, gets arrested for stealing a car.
– Katherine (Dana Delaney) is elated because her daughter Dylan phones her to tell her she’s getting hitched.

She may be engaged, but The Bachelor: London Calling winner Shayne Lamas — who got a ring from Matt Grant Monday night — isn’t buttoning up: She’s poised to make her print debut on the cover of Girls Gone Wild magazine.
Apart from a sizzling six-page photo spread, Lamas, 22, is revealing details from her time on the ABC reality show. During the interview, Lamas says she jumped on board the Bachelor show to her find true love. “It’s what every girl wants,” she says in the chat, characterizing her fiancé as being “very casual [and] respectful of women.”
But don’t expect any juicy details about the proposal. Lamas was interviewed while she was contractually obligated to stay mum about the season finale.
Girls Gone Wild publisher Joe Francis says Lamas’ appeal is easy to sum up. “Shayne has a genuine ‘girl next door’ quality,” he said in a press release. “But she also happens to be very hot.”
Lamas’ Girls Gone Wild pictorial features no nudity.
What did you guys think of the finale? I gotta admit, I was kind of disappointed that Matt picked Shayne. Am I the only one that thinks Shayne is looking for publicity?!

Men in Trees has been cancelled! I’m so upset! I loved Men in Trees! Let’s take a moment of silence.
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello reports that the ABC drama Men In Trees has been canceled. Ausiello says he got the news from series creator Jenny Bicks, who is quoted as saying, ”I wish the show had not been moved six times and put onto two long hiatuses. No show could survive that.” Trees, which stars Anne Heche as a relationship coach who has relocated to Alaska, returns with its final run of episodes on May 28. Ausiello reports that Bicks prepared for a possible cancellation by shooting a series finale that will now be tacked onto the season’s last episode, which airs this summer.
