Zach Galifianakis on ‘The Hangover III’: “I’m getting fricking phone calls already”

In the Rolling Stone cover story, Zach Galifianakis – who doesn’t have a publicist or an assistant and still drives his 1998 Subaru – tells Rolling Stone contributing editor Josh Eells that he’s having difficulty getting used to life as a celebrity. “I’m terrible about people wanting to take pictures with me,” Galifianakis says. “I’m a giant baby about it. They treat you like a cartoon. There’s nothing you can do except make light of it. That’s if I’m in the mood. Sometimes I get superbummed.”

That doesn’t mean he’s going to stop making movies. “They want to do a Hangover III,” he says. “I’m getting fricking phone calls already.” According what he’s heard, the plot ditches the format of the first two and focuses on his character escaping from a mental institution with help from the wolf pack.

Other highlights from the story:

• At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after party, Galifianakis wandered down to the pool and bumped into Jane Lynch and her wife and Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his boyfriend. “Nice to meet you!” he said to the group. “I didn’t realize it was Gay Night by the swimming pool.” At the time, he saw nothing wrong with the exchange. “I walked away like, ‘Another good one!’” he says. “But my girlfriend said, ‘I gotta tell you, Zach – that did not go over well. You have to watch people’s reactions!’”

• About 10 years ago, he got hired to write for Saturday Night Live. Britney Spears was the musical guest and he pitched a sketch in which Spears was being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight when she suddenly, and without explanation, began bleeding from the mouth. She didn’t find the idea funny. “I remember starring at the ground for, like, 20 seconds, just silent,” Galifiankis says. “45,000 open mics, and I’m trying to impress this 18-year old pop star.” He lasted two weeks at the job.

• Galifianakis says he turned down $700,000 to be a Time Warner spokesperson, and after the success of The Hangover Nike contacted him. “We had a conference call,” he says. “The first thing I said was, ‘So, do you guys still have seven-year-olds making your stuff?’” He didn’t get the job.

Zack Galifianakis to January Jones: “You are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you”

Zach Galifianakis knows how to make friends in Hollywood!

During a recent interview with Shortlist.com, ‘The Hangover II’ star was told that ‘Mad Men’ actress January Jones found him to be the funniest man she had ever met. Sounds nice, right? Well, apparently not. Either that or Zach has a really, really, really dry sense of humor.

Galifianakis apparently remembered a more than “rude” mama-to-be when he was summoned to her table at an event.

“I sit at her table and talk for 10 minutes, and she goes, ‘I think it’s time for you to leave now,’” Galifiankakis recalls. “So I say, ‘January, you are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you in a few years, so f-cking be nice,’ and I got up and left.”

He doesn’t stop there. Apparently when asked if he’d ever want to do a sex scene with the blonde beauty, he replied: “I wouldn’t want to. I’d hate it,” he said.

Picking on the pregnant girl? Not cool, man, not cool.

Zach Galifianakis on the cover of GQ Magazine!

Zach Galifianakis is everywhere: on the internet with Between Two Ferns; on HBO with a recurring role in Bored to Death (LOVE THAT SHOW); on network television as two-time host of SNL; even in the English lexicon, since his character in The Hangover did no less than redefine the pronunciation of the word retard. He returns to the big screen this May with a reprisal of that role in The Hangover Part II, but first, Zach G took a few minutes to help GQ solve some of the world’s most pressing problems, by way of fill-in-the-blanks. For instance: “Personally, I think Sarah Palin is MARKETABLE and I would like to BUY her.”

Did Zach Galifianakis get Mel Gibson’s ‘Hangover 2′ cameo canceled?

Zach Galifianakis explains to interviewer Scott Aukerman that although he was excited by the success of The Hangover, he’s not into a lot of the showbiz scene. Furthermore, he’s against too much gunplay in movies, and he’s even declined several roles on moral grounds.

When it comes to “a movie you’re acting in,” says Galifianakis, 41, “you don’t have a lot of control – you just show up and vomit your lines out. I mean, I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to … I’m not making any leeway.”

When Aukerman starts to reveal the title of the movie, Hangover 2, Galifianakis stops him cold.

“It has something to do with a movie I’m working on, yeah,” concedes Galifianakis. “I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.”

“I’d love to hear about it,” responds Aukerman.
