BEAUTY GIVEAWAY: Nominate a special woman in your life for a Beauty Box!

Some of you may know that I have another website, called Make Her Up. There I review beauty products – and we give away a ton of goodies as well. In the spirit of Christmas, we’re giving away 2 Beauty Boxes to someone who needs a little pick-me-up!

From Make Her Up:

Erin and I are blessed to have a job that allows us an abundance of amazing beauty products. Products that we’d never pay for ourselves, products we can give to family and friends. We have been talking over the last week or so about wanting to share our goods with a couple of you.

We want to open this giveaway up to you guys. We would really love to send out a couple care packages this holiday season to women who could really use some encouragement. Do you know someone who has been down on their luck lately? Do you know someone who doesn’t get much for Christmas – but always provides for everyone around her? Do you know a woman who could use a little something special for Christmas? I think each of us know that one special person in our life who could just use something really wonderful….and that’s who we’re looking for.

We would love for you to nominate that person to receive a special beauty gift box from Make Her Up.

Here’s how to nominate your special woman:

  • Your woman’s age (will help us determine which products to send)
  • How you know the woman
  • Why you feel this woman should receive the gift box
  • Please DO NOT include their name. We will reach out to you and get that info at the end.

We will pick 2 women, an older woman and a younger woman (because of the product types).

We will send a boxed gift to your woman, and include your letter/comment that won them the gift.

We’ll give this a couple weeks, because we’d really like to choose the winner carefully.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

REVIEW: Michael Keaton is BACK in ‘Birdman’

‘Birdman’ is the kind of movie you know you probably SHOULD see, but you don’t know if you really want to. I honestly didn’t think the previews were all that great, but it was getting such amazing reviews I knew I HAD to see it!

I pretty much always agree with Rotten Tomatoes and use their rating system quite regularly when trying to figure out if a movie is worth seeing. 50% or less and it’s a gamble. 50% or more and it’s a safe bet. ‘Birdman’ comes in at an almost perfect 94%, and so I was sold.

Here is the movie’s synopsis:

BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.

It’s a brief description, but I’m not sure how better I would have said it. I thought the movie was BRILLIANT. Michael Keaton was amazing. Edward Norton gives one of the best performances I’ve ever seen from him. Emma Stone was perfection. I saw it with my girlfriend, and at one point in the film I leaned over and said “every line in this movie is genius.” It is just written SO WELL, that you have to just sit back, and watch in awe.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this movie. I think it’s pretty close to perfection. As we left the theater, my girlfriend said “yeah but who would we suggest this movie to?” It’s not the kind of blockbuster film that will make a ton of movie. If you’re the kind of person who sees movies once or twice a month – maybe less – this might not be the movie for you. This movie is much more for the connoisseur of dark comedies, artsy flicks. If you like the same kind of movies as I do, I think you’re going to love it like I did.

Genius. That’s all there is to it.

NEW CONTEST!! Lifetime’s ‘Aaliyah, The Princess of R&B’ Movie PLUS Photos and Videos!

I am so excited to announce this new contest – and Lifetime’s new original movie, ‘Aaliyah, The Princess of R&B!’ The new movie will premiere on November 15th at 8:00 ET!

Before Beyonce and before Rihanna, self-proclaimed “street but sweet” Aaliyah was poised to become a global icon with top-selling albums, a hot movie career and an adoring fan base. I remember Aaliyah so well. She just exploded on the scene – and EVERYONE was talking about her.

Lifetime’s NEW movie stars Alexandra Shipp as singer Aaliyah. The film will begin in the early days of her career – up until her tragic death. The movie is based upon the bestselling book, “Aaliyah: More Than a Woman” by former Time Magazine music editor Christopher John Farley.

The film follows the beautiful and talented performer’s inspirational journey, from her debut on Star Search at the age of ten, to the challenges she faced during her rise to become the Princess of R&B. The movie will also touch on her high-profile relationship with Damon Dash, her brief marriage to R-Kelly (which producers say will be handled “tastefully”), and her shocking death.

On August 25, 2001, at the height of her popularity, her life was tragically cut short when a plane carrying the singer and some of her video crew crashed after takeoff from a Bahamian runway. I remember that day vividly!

Although just 22-years-old at the time of her death, Aaliyah continues to lead a legacy as Billboard’s tenth most famous R&B artist of the past 25 years and one of the recording industry’s most successful artists in history.

The two-hour movie is executively produced by Howard Braunstein, Debra Martin Chase and Wendy Williams. “We let you know what happened with Aaliyah and R. Kelly. Nothing is distasteful. You don’t want to be distasteful, but you need to tell a story.”
