Woah, Snoop Dog getting REAL.
The History Channelââ¬â¢s miniseries reboot of Roots began last night, and continues over four nights and it has a lot to live up to, as the original was pretty groundbreaking and big for 1997 (and based off of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book). This new Roots has a whole new cast is supposed to be reflective of our current racial climate. BUT some people (and by some people I mean Snoop Dogg) are just sick and tired of downer TV.
Snoop Dogg has no plans to watch the Roots remake, and heââ¬â¢s telling his fans to also boycott the show. The rapper sent out his message over social media on Monday.
ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢m sick of this sh-t. How the fââ¬â are they going to put Roots on, on Memorial Day?ââ¬Â Snoop said in an Instagram video. ââ¬ÅThey going to just to keep beating that sh-t into our heads about how they did us, huh?ââ¬Â
The History channelââ¬â¢s revival is a four-part, eight-hour series that debuts Monday. Snoop said he has no interest in new shows and movies ââ¬â specifically mentioning 12 Years a Slave ââ¬â that ââ¬Åkeep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.ââ¬Â
ââ¬ÅI ainââ¬â¢t watching that sh-t, and I advise you motherf-ââ¬âers as real nââ¬â like myself; fââ¬â them television shows,ââ¬Â Snoop said. ââ¬ÅLetââ¬â¢s create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is whatââ¬â¢s real. Fââ¬â that old sh-t.ââ¬Â
Oh, Snoop. I’m sorry you’re sick of seeing downer social consciousness and civil rights stuff. But that’s not a conversation if we just stop making these shows or make some literal, contemporary, on the nose moral drama. Ya hear?
