Honestly, how many of these can we read?
Kristen Stewart is kind of a compelling person to watch/read about, mostly because I feel like she’s always struggling with who she is and what she wants and how she wants to be perceived. I might be wrong, but she seems VERY image conscious, very pursuant of “cool.” And this Variety interview isn’t much different, aside from a bunch of stuff about her parents being normal, working-class movie people (her mom is a script supervisor and her dad is a stage manager). Other than that, the same old, no labels, not letting Twilight define her, etc. etc. etc….
On her post-Twilight Identity:ââ¬ÅI didnââ¬â¢t carve out some path. I didnââ¬â¢t fight hard to be taken seriously. As much as the ââ¬ËTwilightââ¬â¢ series shaped and defined me for other people in a grand way, for me it wasnââ¬â¢t something I had to get away from.àIt was just a long experience on a movie that I liked.ââ¬Â
On returning to blockbusters: ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢m a kid from the Valley,ââ¬Â she says. ââ¬ÅI love big movies that everyone sees, and I canââ¬â¢t wait for the opportunity to fââ¬âing nail that. It has to be the right people and the right time.ââ¬Â
On defining her sexuality:ââ¬ÅThereââ¬â¢s acceptance thatââ¬â¢s become really rampant and cool,ââ¬Â she says. ââ¬ÅYou donââ¬â¢t have to immediately know how to define yourself.ââ¬Â Stewart didnââ¬â¢t feel that way growing up, but sheââ¬â¢s come to adopt this outlook. ââ¬ÅI had to have some answer about who I was. I felt this weird responsibility, because I didnââ¬â¢t want to seem fearful. But nothing seemed appropriate. So I was like, ââ¬ËFââ¬âk, how do I define that?ââ¬â¢ Iââ¬â¢m not going to. Plus, I didnââ¬â¢t want to fââ¬âk with other people,ââ¬Â she says, referring to teenagers who struggle with their sexuality. ââ¬ÅI didnââ¬â¢t want to be this example: Itââ¬â¢s so easy. I donââ¬â¢t want it to seem like it was stupid for them to have a hard time.ââ¬Â
On appearing publicly with girlfriends: ââ¬ÅAs much as I want to protect myself, itââ¬â¢s not about hiding. As soon as you start throwing up so many walls, you cannot see over them yourself, so you just start isolating in a way thatââ¬â¢s not honest. I definitely found where Iââ¬â¢m comfortable. I donââ¬â¢t take credit for that.ââ¬Â She says that times have changed, and her publicist doesnââ¬â¢t even need to ask her how sheââ¬â¢ll handle these questions. ââ¬ÅThings have really shifted in this wonderful way. Iââ¬â¢m reaping the benefits.ââ¬Â
For real, though- can Kristen just use the word “GIRLFRIEND” already? Jesus.
