Scarlett Johansson is doing her part to promote Captain America: Civil War, which is a movie I care nothing about. Still, it’s why she covers the new issue of Cosmopolitan and I’m glad she can talk about stuff that’s important, like Planned Parenthood and Politics- which is more than I can say for some actors on the cover of certain OTHER style magazines (cough, Kate Hudson, cough). In the early excerpts from Scarlettââ¬â¢s Cosmo interview, she talks Planned Parenthood, equal pay and what itââ¬â¢s like to date (drumroll….) an emotional vampire.
On cutting the budget for Planned Parenthood: ââ¬ÅThere are countries at war, thereââ¬â¢s terrorism, global warming, and weââ¬â¢re like, ââ¬ËWe should definitely cut the budget for Planned Parenthood. Letââ¬â¢s take away the availability of womenââ¬â¢s health initiatives!ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬Â¦ Itââ¬â¢s nuts. Weââ¬â¢re talking about preventing cervical and breast cancers. Growing up, I used [PPââ¬â¢s] services. All my girlfriends didââ¬ânot just for birth control but for Pap smears and breast exams. You read about the rise of back-alley abortions, women having to mutilate themselves and teenagers having to seek help in unsafe conditions, and for what?! Weââ¬â¢re moving backward when weââ¬â¢re supposed to be moving forward.ââ¬Â
On equal pay: ââ¬ÅThereââ¬â¢s something icky about me having that conversation unless it applies to a greater wholeââ¬Â¦ I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and Iââ¬â¢m proud to be an actress whoââ¬â¢s making as much as many of my male peers at this stageââ¬Â¦ I think every woman has [been underpaid], but unless Iââ¬â¢m addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious. Itââ¬â¢s part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.ââ¬Â
On hitting rock bottom: ââ¬ÅLong, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailableââ¬Â¦but, like, so attractively unavailable. You have to get to your breaking pointââ¬Â¦ rock bottom is the moment when youââ¬â¢re like, ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ve lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isnââ¬â¢t me.ââ¬â¢ That is the moment youââ¬â¢ve gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood.ââ¬Â
Hear hear on PP, despite the rest of the country not giving a F about women. But I’m also SO interested in who the “forever unavailable” dude was that she’s referring to. I don’t think it’s Ryan Reynolds. My first thought is Sean Penn, but it could also be Josh Hartnett (remember him?) or I can totally see Jared Leto summoning ScarJo in a cab late at night.
Who do YOU think she’s talking about?
