But seriously, would you watch a Selena Gomez-produced Latina Empire?
Because that’s exactly what the show promises. Freeform teamed up with Gomez and producer Aaron Kaplan for a drama series project of that premise. The pitch: a story through the eyes of an 18-year old girl and her struggle for greatness in a low income Latino neighborhood. Quite possibly the most interesting thing is that Los Angeles high school senior Ana Cobarrubias serves as a consultant on the project, which is looking for a writer, and that Selena won’t act: she’ll strictly produce.
At Freeform, Kaplan also has a comedy starring Nicki Minaj, which recently shot a pilot based on Minaj’s childhood. Previously, Kaplan executive produced the Freeform series Chasing Life and Kevin From Work.
Would you watch this show? It could be good, given the right tone and writer….
