I feel sorry for Maria Sharapova– she lost MILLIONS in the blink of an eye…
The tennis player revealed on Monday that she had failed a drugs test at this year’s Australian Open, losing millions of dollars in endorsements from the likes of Nike, Porsche and TAG Heuer. The news immediately brought the drug she was taking, called meldonium, to the world’s attention.
Meldonium has been taking the stuff since 2006. Though it’s usually treated to help blood flow in the heart, athletes use it to increase whole-body blood flow, basically making them better at what they do by carrying more oxygen to their muscles. It is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States and is not authorized in the rest of Europe.
Honestly, the drug wasn’t banned until 2015 and Sharapova says she’s been taking the drug for 10 years for magnesium deficiency and a family history of diabetes. Which sounds legit; it would be one thing if it was known to be banned for a while. But it’s newly banned and she seems genuine.
What do YOU think about Maria’s guilt?
