More Celebs at The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards in LA

Depression and art go hand in hand, so says Adele!

In an interview with Matt Lauer on Monday’s Today show, the British singer gushed about motherhood, saying that she’s never been happier or healthier, which is good. The When We Were Young songstress also said that her 3-year-old son Angelo is her “emotional place,” explaining that he’s made her a more emotional person “in every single way possible.”

But for an artist like Adele, being fulfilled isn’t the best emotional state when churning out hits. The 27-year-old revealed that Angelo made her so happy that it caused problems when she was writing 25! She explained:

“I found it impossible for a while. I didn’t know what I wanted to write about. … What’s wrong is I wasn’t sad.”

On past records, her hits were all about being bummed out, but she decided to spin her usual MO on its head…

Hello is just about reconnecting with everyone else and myself. I couldn’t get over my guilt of leaving my kid to go and write a record and stuff like that. So [it’s] getting over that — getting on the other side of that. It was just, you know, it’s in general, just hello to everyone.”

Well, OBVI Adele doesn’t need to be sad to write a killer song. Doesn’t matter what emotional state you’re in, you’re just crazy talented, girl!
