On Thursday, Caitlyn Jenner spoke at the Chicago Hilton hotel to benefit Chicago House where she was bombarded by protesters who called her an insult to trans people. Protesters shouted at Caitlyn through a megaphone calling her an unfit representative of the transgender community.
A protester yelled, “You have no right to represent us! You are an insult!”
A protester by the name of Monica James held a sign that said, “Liberation not miss-representation” and she told the Chicago Tribune, “Make the services and make this movement and this plea for trans tolerance intentional and direct for the people who are facing the violence every day on the streets, the people who are being discriminated against on the basis of their gender and their race at the same time.”
She went on to say, “[Caitlyn] can’t speak to those struggles. It defaces the real truth behind transitioning.”
Upon exiting the hotel, the ââ¬ÅI Am Caitââ¬Â star ââ¬â who, Entertainment Tonight reported, was accompanied by a camera crew ââ¬â stopped to speak with James, who said she was a community activist unable to find employment because of her gender and race.
ââ¬ÅI would love to see you have a job,ââ¬Â Jenner told James. ââ¬ÅI love you.ââ¬Â
Jenner was then escorted out of the hotel by her security, throwing up a peace sign before entering a black van, the Tribune reported.
ââ¬ÅI understand her saying that and having her perspective, but thatââ¬â¢s just one perspective,ââ¬Â James said. ââ¬ÅNow weââ¬â¢re asking them to come and get the rest of our perspectives and then make a comprehensive package of how weââ¬â¢re going to try to merge these people into mainstream society with equal rights and equal benefits.ââ¬Â
What do you think of the protesters’ comments?
