Have Sean Penn and Madonna gotten back together?

After Charlize Theron broke off her engagement to Sean Penn, rumors have swirled across the internet stating that Sean might actually be back together with Madonna.

Rumors surfaced again after the two were seen hanging out together at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California earlier in the week. A source said, “They were both at the hotel, hanging at the bar area. They were just kicking it.”

The “Mystic River” star has ironically been seen more with ex-wife Madge since he filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit against “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels last month for implying Penn had a violent past with her. Daniels, while defending his own show’s star Terrence Howard’s reported violence against women, said that Howard “ain’t done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he’s some [bleeping] demon.”

Penn then had to address old allegations he attacked Madonna and tied her to a chair back in 1988. Penn’s suit said, “Penn (unlike Howard) has never been arrested, much less convicted, for domestic violence, as his ex-wives (including Madonna) would confirm and attest.”

Another source revealed of Madonna and Sean’s relationship, “He is the love of her life.”

A different spy said, “It’s much ado about nothing. They’re friends. Who knows how close they really are after all these years?”

Madonna talked about her ex-husband at a gig last month. She said, “I did a show at Madison Square Garden the other night…and my ex-husband was there! Could you imagine? Thirty years earlier….he was very upset with me for wearing a costume that was too revealing. That’s not a lie! After the show he wrote me a letter and said he finally appreciates my art.”
