Demi Lovato says that she wants young men and women to grow up feeling confident and empowered. The singer insisted that it’s very dangerous to put yourself down and wants her fans to stay positive.
She said that she still feels insecure at times, but says that it helps her to stay positive in the end.
She revealed, “I do have to stay accountable. Because there are people who look up to me for inspiration. There are times when I don’t feel confident and I feel insecure about my body. I think what’s important is that I walk the walk, I don’t just talk the talk. I have to stay accountable.”
She went on to say, “Actually it helps me sometimes. Because I can look in the mirror and feel insecure, and then I’m like, ‘No, that’s not what you stand for. You’re confident, you’re beautiful, you are enough the way you are.’ [But putting yourself down can be] very dangerous. And it’s important that young people don’t get used to that…that they grow up feeling confident and empowered.”
With regard to naming her new album “Confident”, she said that it describes how she feels at the moment. She said, “Confidence is something that everybody struggles with at some point in their life. And I’m now at a point in my life where I feel like I’ve overcome that obstacle to some degree. Some days I won’t feel confident but right now I do and at this period in my life I’ve never felt more confident in my music and who I am as an artist and I wanted to name my album that.”
