Blake Shelton is not taking things lying down when it comes to the tabloids reporting that he has checked himself in for treatment at a rehab center. “In Touch Weekly” reported that the “Voice” judge did just that in their reports that Shelton’s heavy drinking had led to his divorce from Miranda Lambert along with a rehab stay. He is seeking more than one million dollars in damages over the reports.
He’s suing In Touch’s publisher Bauer Publishing Company and says that the magazine has made false reports with regard to his relationship with Lambert. The lawsuit states, “Blake Shelton has had enough. Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab.”
The rehab cover story also proclaimed that Shelton had hit “rock bottom.”
“To be clear: Mr. Shelton has not hit rock bottom,” the lawsuit states. It accuses In Touch of publishing the story without reaching out to the singer’s lawyers or other representatives.
The lawsuit states Shelton, 39, has sought a retraction of the story but received no response.
In addition to monetary damages, Shelton is seeking an injunction that would prevent In Touch from repeating allegations in the disputed story.
