Johnny Depp stars as Whitey Bulger in his new movie “Black Mass”, but he has no interest in winning an Oscar for the role. In fact, he calls the Oscars meaningless, but says that it’s enough to be considered for nomination.
He revealed, “I don’t want to win one of those things ever, you know. I don’t want to have to talk. They gave me one of those things, like a nomination, two or three times. A nomination is plenty.”
He has previously received three Oscar nods, one for Pirates of the Caribbean in 2004, another for Finding Neverland in 2005 and the last for Sweeney Todd in 2008. Some are already calling this new movie a comeback for the actor, but he’s brushing that thought off as well. He joked, “What did I come back from? The dead? I haven’t done anything different in this than I have in any other film.”
He also said that he doesn’t like it when Hollywood pits actors against each other and says that there is no excitement in awards ceremonies for him. He added, “The idea of winning means that you’re in competition with someone and I’m not in competition with anybody. I just stick to my guns and do what I want to do. Sometimes people don’t like it but that’s alright.”
