Kate Winslet is getting REAL about body image struggles that young girls face!
In an interview on Running Wild With Bear Gryll, the actress tells Grylls on the NBC show that she had no positive body image reinforcement, only disparaging comments that made her very critical of her own looks.
“When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life,” she tells Grylls. “I only heard negatives. That’s very damaging, because then you’re programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinize yourself and how you look.”
Winslet decided to take a different approach when raising her children, including her 14 year old daughter Mia.
“I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky we have a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky we’ve got good bums,’” Winslet notes. “And she’ll say, ‘Mommy, I know, thank God.’”
