I don’t want to live in a world where Katy Perry and Taylor Swift aren’t fighting.
Yesterday I told y’all that Katy Perry’s people registered a new song called “1984” with music-licensing organization BMI. Given the similarity between “1984” and Tay’s album called “1989” (which you definitely know about unless you’ve been living in a very deep cave without wifi), the track was rumored to be about Taylor.
BUT- NOT SO!
“Katy Perry’s managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely false,” a rep for Perry at Universal tells Billboard. “Katy Perry was not involved in writing, singing, recording or registering this song.”
BMI confirmed that the “1984” song was registered back in September by BMG Platinum Songs, affiliated with Katy but NOT like, her stable of people. The song is still on BMI’s site with Katy Perry listed under the “Artists” tag…which could mean it’s just a popular pop song that crossed the desk of her people.
So, I guess there really IS nothing to see here…until we spot Kendrick Lamar and a bunch of models shooting something in bondage gear. Am I right?!
