Elizabeth Banks is usually pretty non-controversial, but in this telling Hollywood Reporter interview, she gets a little OPINIONATED (and I like it).
Pitch Perfect 2 is coming out soon, and surprisingly (in an awesome way) Elizabeth Banks directed it. In the interview, she talks about loving her directoral role, Tara Reid and how it’s hard being an actress and a bit o’ inspiration from her journey. FromÃÂ The Hollywood Reporter:
On Hollywood being difficult for ââ¬Ëolderââ¬â¢ actresses: ââ¬ÅThere was a group of us girls coming up. A lot of us are surviving. Some of us are not. I used to go to auditions with Tara Reid. So, you know, we didnââ¬â¢t all make it. Weââ¬â¢re not all still here ââ¬â I do love Sharknadoââ¬Â
On being a female director: ââ¬ÅThe list of women who get to make studio-level films is very short. And Iââ¬â¢m not quite in that club yet. Until this movie comes out, then weââ¬â¢ll see. This shoot is the test. I like to get Aââ¬â¢s.ââ¬Â
On becoming the director of Pitch Perfect 2: ââ¬ÅI went through no hoops for this particular job. I just put myself right at the spot where someone needed to be to get the job. And I prepared. I knew I wanted to direct, so I met DPs, I ran sets, I chose music. I went through the process of directing in little ways ââ¬â nothing too big or risky or time-consuming. I just started really observing.ââ¬Â
On advice/challenges: ââ¬ÅSome big actresses told me a few things that inspired me. One said that the biggest challenge for a female actress was to make sure they are not proÃÂfoundly bored. Another told me to just do whatever you want ââ¬â do anything. And another told me that her quote hadnââ¬â¢t changed in 15 years. That really lit a fire under my ass.ââ¬Â
Can you imagine being at an audition with TARA REID? I can, but only if she’s in like, a tiny bikini and giant sunglasses and maybe a Sharknado coming at the casting director’s office.
What do you think of Elizabeth Banks’ advice? Will you check out Pitch Perfect 2?
