Mickey Rooney sadly passed away last Sunday at the age of 93, and there’s been a lot of turmoil surrounding the memorial services and more importantly, his burial, as his estranged wife began her fight to have Mickey buried in a family lot outside of Hollywood. Luckily, that issues has finally found a peaceful resolution.
Jan Rooney — who separated from Mickey two years ago — just filed legal docs, agreeing to let Rooney be buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, alongside film legends like Cecil B. DeMille, Jayne Mansfield and Rudolph Valentino.
Jan wrote, “Despite my strong desires to be buried with my husband, I feel that I owe it to Mickey’s fans to allow Mickey to be buried alongside other members of Hollywood royalty.”
Jan claims Mickey had long wanted to be buried with his mother at a nearby family plot, but Mickey’s lawyers have said the actor changed his tune in the wake of the couple’s split … wanting to be buried somewhere with a connection to Hollywood film stars instead.
I see both sides of the story here, but it was nice of Jan to be selfless and have him buried in a place where fans can pay their respect for generations to come. It may have been a difficult decision, but that’s the burden of being a Hollywood star, I suppose. It’s just good that it didn’t have to go further than this!
