Angelina Jolie has revealed that she needs to have another surgery to prevent cancer.
Last year, Angelina, 38, underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after it was revealed she had an 87% chance of inheriting breast cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene. Her surgeries didn’t end there. She now claims she needs to have another surgery.
“There’s still another surgery to have, which I haven’t yet. I’ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I’ve been talking to, to get through that next stage,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
“I was very fortunate to have great doctors and very, very fortunate to have a good recovery and have a project like Unbroken to have something to be really focused on, to be getting healthy for, and to be able to just get right back to work,” she added.
“I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people.”
The mother of six, who lost her mother and aunt to breast cancer, previously detailed her experience in a New York Times op-ed titled “My Medical Choice.”
“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could,” she wrote. “I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex.”
So – surgery to remove her ovaries I’m guessing? If you carried the BRCA1 gene, would you go to the extremes that Angelina is going to?
