Drew Barrymore has had a pretty successful career as an actress, that much is sure. Of course, being successful at something doesn’t necessarily mean you’re good at it – which is especially the case in Hollywood – and Drew has admitted that she isn’t the best at her chosen craft.
However, it’s not as bad as you think – she’s not really being down on herself, she just think most actors are “icky” because they try too hard. Instead, she’s transcended that and actually becomes her characters so that it’s not like acting at all.
“I don’t think I’m a good actor. I feel like it’s fake and yucky and it doesn’t ring true. But if you research and you study and make it personal, you just become that person, and it’s your truth and everything else around you falls away. Then you’re telling the truth, it’s not lying, it’s not fake.”
Aw, that’s sweet. Since Drew’s biggest movies are pretty lighthearted (The Wedding Singer, Duplex, Charlie’s Angels, etc.), she hasn’t had much of anything hard-hitting in which she’d need to prove her chops, but she’s still pretty great.
