Miley Cyrus “freed her nipples” for a good cause.
The 21-year-old singer tweeted the photo above on Saturday, flashing her boobs to the camera, with her tongue sticking out (naturally). Her chest was censored by two red hearts, reading “Merry Christmas.” She also drew on a Santa hat, with a Christmas wreath, stocking and Snowman floating around her.
“Merry Christmas,” she wrote. “THANK YOU NY for being one of the few states to @freethenipple.”
Miley’s latest cause is an indie documentary film called “Free the Nipple,” which aims to raise awareness of the media’s censorship of female nudity and openness of graphic violence.
“It’s not about getting your t—ies out,” Cyrus tweeted. “It’s about equality.”
The campaign was started by activists “appalled by [the] American media’s glorification of violence and repression of nudity,” and it aims to “decriminalize the female body” and “protest the backwards censorship laws in the US,” according to its Facebook page.
It’s something Cyrus has spoken about before, as the singer has faced censorship in her own life.
“America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong. Like, I was watching ‘Breaking Bad’ the other day, and they were cooking meth. I could literally cook meth because of that show. It’s a how-to,” she told Rolling Stone in September. “And then they bleeped out the word ‘f–k.’ And I’m like, really? They killed a guy, and disintegrated his body in acid, but you’re not allowed to say ‘f–k’? It’s like when they bleeped ‘molly’ at the VMAs. Look what I’m doing up here right now, and you’re going to bleep out ‘molly’? Whatever.”
Miley has been supporting Lina Esco’s film to help the documentary see the inside of a theater.
I hate to agree with Miley, but I do. We have WAY TOO MUCH violence in our movies. It does seem like Hollywood has no problem showing graphic violence, but gets all weird when it comes to nudity. I’d rather my kids see a bunch of naked people – than watch a movie like ‘Saw.’
