The View is looking to spruce up their line of hosts! On Thursday we learned that Joy Behar was leaving the ABC talk show after 16 years. Now we’re learning that not only is Joy leaving the show, but so is Elisabeth Hasselbeck! At first it seemed like the decision to leave the show was made by Elisabeth herself, but today we’re finding out that she was in fact fired.
The people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABCââ¬â¢s daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.
According to the source, the showââ¬â¢s resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isnââ¬â¢t popular with TV audiences.
ââ¬ÅThe viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing,ââ¬Â the insider tells Us. ââ¬ÅPeople did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.ââ¬Â
When reached for comment, a rep for the show told Us in a statement: ââ¬ÅElisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract.ââ¬Â
Hasselbeck, 35, joined the cast of the daytime talk show in November 2003 after guest-hosting the show following Lisa Lingââ¬â¢s departure in 2002.
Throughout the course of her time on The View, she has gotten into numerous arguments with her cohosts, including a heated argument with Rosie Oââ¬â¢Donnell in 2007 over the War in Afghanistan and with Barbara Walters over Mitt Romney in 2012.
Earlier this week, Behar, 70, announced her own departure from the show after 16 1/2 years.
ââ¬ÅYou canââ¬â¢t stay forever on a show,ââ¬Â she told Good Morning America. ââ¬ÅI am graciously exiting stage left. Iââ¬â¢ve put in 16 1/2 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities.ââ¬Â
Adds the source to Us: ââ¬ÅJoy says it just felt ââ¬Â¦ tired and like work. She was over it.ââ¬Â
Behar has been with the talk show since its inception in 1997, and currently hosts Joy Behar: Say Anything! on Current TV.
I don’t watch this show enough to really have an opinion on it. I’ve seen it a couple times, I just don’t have the time or capability to watch daytime TV. I always thought Elisabeth brought a good level of healthy debate to the show. I thought her opinions were just as important as the other women’s, and I always appreciated her way to stand up for herself.
What do you think about Elisabeth’s departure? Will you miss her?
