Mark Wahlberg/Justin Bieber movie is actually happening.

Justin Bieber is about to make his acting debut, alongside Mark Wahlberg, in a new movie. “The script’s good and now we’re trying to figure out his whole schedule,” Wahlberg confirmed.

The movie is written by ‘How To Make It in America’ creator Ian Edelman, and the untitled film will star 41-year-old Wahlberg as a “reluctant mentor” to Bieber’s young basketball playing street hustler.

“Originally we had a great idea but we didn’t know what the script would be like, but then Ian just turned in this great f**g script,” Wahlberg explained, adding that Bieber’s manager and the film’s co-producer Scooter Braun “is super excited about it.”

Wahlberg – who Deadline reports will co-produce the picture along with Braun and his production partner Stephen Levinson — previously described the film as an update of the Paul Newman, Tom Cruise film The Color of Money set “in the world of inner city basketball” with Bieber playing the “wisecracking kid who’s very talented.”

As for timing, Bieber is currently committed to his Believe World Tour until May of 2013 and Wahlberg has a slew of big ticket films coming out in the coming year — including the sequel to the Seth MacFarlane hit Ted, a feature film adaptation of the 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys and a starring role in the next Transformers film.

Asked for when he believes film is set to begin principal photography, Wahlberg pinpointed early 2014 as a tentative date.

“With Transformers and Ted 2 and Cocaine Cowboys, maybe around February of next year we can shoot it.”

At first I was horrified, and then I calmed down and realized it IS Mark Wahlberg who I idolize for the most part (until he did ‘Ted’). If Mark has his hands in it, it can’t be that bad, right?

PS: I just love this picture of Bieber. He looks so…. soft.
