One thing everyone can probably agree on, is that Jessica Biel, 30,ÃÂ needs a good movie. She played Gerard Butler’s love interest in “Playing for Keeps”, the romantic comedy that is being hailed one of the worst movies of the year. I’ve seen it, it was awful…like really, really bad.
Even though she landed a small part in the mediocre movie “Hitchcock”, Jessica is reportedly furious that she keeps losing out prime roles to Anne Hathaway….and it happened more than once.
ââ¬ÅJessica was fuming when she heard she didnââ¬â¢t get the role of Catwoman,ââ¬Â says an insider of ââ¬ÅThe Dark Knight Risesââ¬Â gig that went to Anne Hathaway instead. ââ¬ÅShe really thought she was going to get it, but when Christopher Nolan [the filmââ¬â¢s director] handed the role to Hathaway, she was devastated.ââ¬Â
That wasnââ¬â¢t the only 2012 big-ticket flick Biel is said to have lost to Hathaway. She was pursuing the role of Fantine in ââ¬ÅLes Miserables,ââ¬Â which had its New York premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre Monday night. Already thereââ¬â¢s Oscar buzz about Hathawayââ¬â¢s performance.
Biel was also up for a star role in the upcoming superhero film ââ¬ÅWolverineââ¬Â opposite Hugh Jackman, but that didn’t go her way either.
ââ¬ÅShe didnââ¬â¢t get the part, but she came pretty close,ââ¬Â a producer whoââ¬â¢s worked with Biel tells us.
One powerful Hollywood agent blames Bielââ¬â¢s camp for choosing the wrong roles.
ââ¬ÅI donââ¬â¢t know why she keeps doing those bad romantic comedies,ââ¬Â the 10-percenter tells Confidenti@l. ââ¬ÅThey need to get her a meaty guest-starring role on a hit TV show.ââ¬Â
Bielââ¬â¢s new rom-com has been met with tepid reviews. The Daily Newsââ¬â¢ Elizabeth Weitzman gave ââ¬ÅPlaying for Keepsââ¬Â two out of five stars and called it ââ¬Åjust another generic date-night flick, destined to be forgotten almost immediately.ââ¬Â
According to another top-tier agent, the secretââ¬â¢s finally out that Biel might not be very good.
ââ¬ÅShe may be a gorgeous girl, but her acting ability just isnââ¬â¢t where it needs to be,ââ¬Â says our inside source. ââ¬ÅShe hasnââ¬â¢t proven that sheââ¬â¢s a real actor.ââ¬Â
Another Hollywood player says Bielââ¬â¢s biggest problem has been an inability to establish an identity.
ââ¬ÅBeing married to Justin Timberlake is her calling card at the moment,ââ¬Â the insider tells Confidenti@l. ââ¬ÅThere is nothing extraordinary about her, like Carey Mulligan or even Amy Adams, so sheââ¬â¢s not on the studiosââ¬â¢ radar unless theyââ¬â¢re love-interest roles.ââ¬Â
One agent we talked to suggests that ââ¬Åshe should get an acting coach and do an independent film or two that would show off her talent, not her beauty.ââ¬Â
Bielââ¬â¢s reps did not return calls for comment.
I’ve thought for some time that Jessica Biel desperately needs a good movie. I agree she should STOP with the terrible romantic comedies. They’re not her thing. I don’t think she has the personality for it. She comes off as cold onscreen, she doesn’t have the bubbly – lovey – persona, as … say…. Rachel McAdams and Reese Witherspoon.ÃÂ It’s not her fault, it’s just who she is! But someone needs to give the girl a break – and QUIT hiring her for the same type of movie over and over. I think instead of going back to TV as the article suggests, I think she should go do a bunch of Indie movies, like Elizabeth Olsen. Go do a bunch of low-budget, well written movies for a bit – and then come back to us. Mkay?
