Jessica Biel was “fuming when she heard she didn’t get the role of Catwoman”

One thing everyone can probably agree on, is that Jessica Biel, 30,  needs a good movie. She played Gerard Butler’s love interest in “Playing for Keeps”, the romantic comedy that is being hailed one of the worst movies of the year. I’ve seen it, it was awful…like really, really bad.

Even though she landed a small part in the mediocre movie “Hitchcock”, Jessica is reportedly furious that she keeps losing out prime roles to Anne Hathaway….and it happened more than once.

“Jessica was fuming when she heard she didn’t get the role of Catwoman,” says an insider of “The Dark Knight Rises” gig that went to Anne Hathaway instead. “She really thought she was going to get it, but when Christopher Nolan [the film’s director] handed the role to Hathaway, she was devastated.”

That wasn’t the only 2012 big-ticket flick Biel is said to have lost to Hathaway. She was pursuing the role of Fantine in “Les Miserables,” which had its New York premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre Monday night. Already there’s Oscar buzz about Hathaway’s performance.

Biel was also up for a star role in the upcoming superhero film “Wolverine” opposite Hugh Jackman, but that didn’t go her way either.

“She didn’t get the part, but she came pretty close,” a producer who’s worked with Biel tells us.

One powerful Hollywood agent blames Biel’s camp for choosing the wrong roles.

“I don’t know why she keeps doing those bad romantic comedies,” the 10-percenter tells Confidenti@l. “They need to get her a meaty guest-starring role on a hit TV show.”

Biel’s new rom-com has been met with tepid reviews. The Daily News’ Elizabeth Weitzman gave “Playing for Keeps” two out of five stars and called it “just another generic date-night flick, destined to be forgotten almost immediately.”

According to another top-tier agent, the secret’s finally out that Biel might not be very good.

“She may be a gorgeous girl, but her acting ability just isn’t where it needs to be,” says our inside source. “She hasn’t proven that she’s a real actor.”

Another Hollywood player says Biel’s biggest problem has been an inability to establish an identity.

“Being married to Justin Timberlake is her calling card at the moment,” the insider tells Confidenti@l. “There is nothing extraordinary about her, like Carey Mulligan or even Amy Adams, so she’s not on the studios’ radar unless they’re love-interest roles.”

One agent we talked to suggests that “she should get an acting coach and do an independent film or two that would show off her talent, not her beauty.”

Biel’s reps did not return calls for comment.

I’ve thought for some time that Jessica Biel desperately needs a good movie. I agree she should STOP with the terrible romantic comedies. They’re not her thing. I don’t think she has the personality for it. She comes off as cold onscreen, she doesn’t have the bubbly – lovey – persona, as … say…. Rachel McAdams and Reese Witherspoon. It’s not her fault, it’s just who she is! But someone needs to give the girl a break – and QUIT hiring her for the same type of movie over and over. I think instead of going back to TV as the article suggests, I think she should go do a bunch of Indie movies, like Elizabeth Olsen. Go do a bunch of low-budget, well written movies for a bit – and then come back to us. Mkay?

Seriously, she just needs to thank her lucky stars that JT married her. She should be grateful for that and move on. She’s always complaining she’s not a big movie star. Remember a few years back when she complained how her beauty gets in the way of the roles she gets offered?! Her words, not mine. As I kindly pointed out that Angelina Jolie, scarlett johannson, Sienna miller are such dogs. It’s not just her acting ability, which is okay. Its just that she doesn’t have the IT factor like most of the big stars have. This woman is just so blah. Her so called manly “beauty” is average at best. I always wondered why some two bit actress from 7th heaven was trying so desperately to become a movie star. Some crazy PR guy/girl got it in her head that this can and will happen many many years ago and hasn’t stopped trying ever since

Jessica you lucked out getting anything , as for JT that’s a curse if I was your agent I wouldn’t even submit you for an infomercial. I was an agent a very good one Ellen Page’s in fact, now she has a god given talent or did. ,
Jessica needs a new agent manager etc….AND many acting lessons maybe then audition for student films etc. but still I think her ego is too big to ever be able to get the act in actor and humble would never be her 2nd name ,she thinks she has just been too pretty she is delusional give it up plz…..

I don’t understand the Jessica bashing. Maybe it’s jealousy. I also don’t believe the above story at all. Sounds made up. I am close to the whole background story of The Batman Trilogy making and I don’t think she was ever seriously in the running for TDKR. A funnier and more deserving story is that of Kate Beckinsale. Was caught bashing Bale whilst waiting to audition. Got back to Nolan, who promptly made it known she could forget it. Now talk about a cold, full of herself bad actress. Karma is a bitch.

She has Lilo-style delusions of grandeur. She’s not a good actress, but it wouldn’t even occur to her to study and practice because she thinks she’s faaabulous.

She did a mall budget thriller called “The Tall Man” that I enjoyed immensely

Jessica Biel wouldn’t have been a worse Catwoman than Anne Hathaway, who is pretty but has zero sex appeal. Biel was a splendid surprise in 2008′s “Easy Virtue” where she absolutely held her own against Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas. Biel’s got more to offer than what she is credited for, she just needs to get the right films. I hope that will happen in the future.
