Sesame Street accuser changes his story – possibly after being paid off?

Well this story just got a lot more interesting!

The man who claimed that Kevin Clash (the voice of Elmo) engaged in a sexual relationship with him when he was only 16 years old, has RECANTED his story! He now claims he WAS an adult when their relationship began. HUH?

The accuser’s lawyer just released a statement saying, “[The accuser] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship. [The accuser] will have no further comment.”

It’s unclear why the accuser suddenly changed his story … but sources close to the situation tell TMZ … the accuser’s attorney had been meeting with Clash’s attorney as recent as an hour ago, discussing a financial settlement and 6-figures were on the table.

We broke the story, the accuser claimed he had a sexual relationship with Kevin beginning when he was 16 and Kevin was 45.

Clash has also released a statement saying, “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”

I am beyond disgusted with the fact that there has been some sort of settlement. 6 figures!? What the heck? Isn’t it still a crime? Since when can a rapist pay off his victim – and then the case gets dropped? (I’m not implying Clash raped the boy, just comparing the two.) Wouldn’t police still need to determine if a crime took place – with or without the victims complicity?

USA should lower age of consent to 16. Problem solved.

Last week you’re agreeing with Kate Gosselin and trashing pit bulls and now you’re using TMZ as your news source and you’re “disgusted” about a settlement that may not have even happened?
We might never know what really happened, but what we do know is that Kevin Clash’s rise as a puppeteer is inspiring and that the reason that Elmo, who teaches tolerance, love, and courage, is one of the most loved characters on Sesame Street is because of Kevin. I think that Kevin deserves the benefit of the doubt.
