I bet Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is wishing she were dealing with Peta Mellark, not PETA the animal activist group!
Alas, her life can’t be THAT perfect. Lawrence has gotten some flack about her gut-wrenching scene in her breakout film, Winter’s Bone. In the film, Lawrence graphically guts a squirrel. When asked about the authenticity of this scene, Lawrence told US Weekly, “I should say it wasn’t real, for PETA, but screw PETA.”
PETA, of course, didn’t fall silent on the subject. The organization’s president, Ingrid Newkirk, replied, “she’s young and the plight of animals somehow hasn’t yet touched her heart…When people kill animals, it is the animals who are ‘screwed,’ not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature.”
