Johnny Depp’s Style: Confusing Or Cool?

Here’s actor Johnny Depp leaving an apartment building in Tribeca this afternoon.

Let’s talk Johnny Depp fashion for a minute.  I love the man, I love his movies.  I hate his style.  He used to do okay, but the last few years, there is just no rhyme or reason to it.  It’s a little rock ‘n roll/cowboy/Indian/train conductor/farmer something or other. I just do not get it anymore. That hat. Someone steal it and burn it, I beg of you.

I know he doesn’t want to be some “mainstream” poster boy for fashion and is all “I’m an artist, not a product”, but come on.  Pick a style and go with it.  I’m so over this mess.  And it’s not because it’s “different”.  I love funky and unique.  I love Helena Bonham Carter and all of her wacky fashion and anyone else who steps out of the norm but has a “clear vision” of their style.  Maybe Helena can give her BFF Johnny some style help.

I love it. He wears cool pieces, piling them on how he wants. At times it make more sense than others, but that’s okay. All the people with the best style sometimes look like hot messes, in my opinion. Why play it safe? He’s having fun.
I can see what you mean about him not picking a style, but I think all of the pieces in these pictures ARE of the same style. They all seem like vintage/thrift finds. It seems everyone who is an avid thrifter ends up into the western look, whether it’s more native or more “cowboy,” . . . I don’t know. It just works for me somehow.
I acknowledge that he’s a mess in one sense of the word, but I wouldn’t want to see him dressed any other way.
