Melissa McCarthy calls a ‘Bridesmaids’ sequel without Kristen Wiig “a terrible idea”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Wiig has no plans on making a sequel to ‘Bridesmaids’, which she starred in and co-wrote.
Universal Studios, on the other hand, has other plans – even if it means going ahead with a Wiig-less sequel. ‘Bridesmaids’ is one of the highest-grossing comedies of all time. According to THR, Universal is interested in Melissa McCarthy’s character taking center stage in the new film.
Apparently, no one at the studio behind the first film has run this plan by her.
“God, I wouldn’t want to [be in a sequel without Wiig,]” McCarthy told E!’s Marc Malkin. “I would never want to. I think it’s a terrible idea.”
McCarthy added that she is not aware of Universal’s current plans for a sequel: “But I know that nobody wants to do it unless it’s great. If it is, I will show up wherever those ladies are.”
I agree, that’s one horrible idea. Kristen Wiig really is the reason why that movie was so funny. If they made another without her – it would be a huge mistake!
PS: Here are pictures of Melissa at the PSIFF. What do you think of her dress? Wonder if she designed it. She’s been designing her own clothes lately, after complaining that no one makes decent plus sized clothes.
