Well, Brett Rattner and Eddie Murphy are out of the Oscars for good. But – I’m thinking it’ll all work out in the end, because producer Brian Grazer is in, and Billy Crystal has signed on to host!
I was upset that Eddie Murphy had quit, because I think he would have been amazing. But now that Billy’s on board, I’m even MORE excited, because Billy is – in my humble opinion – the best Oscar’s host there’s ever been.
The comedy veteran and eight time Oscar host tweeted on Thursday afternoon that he would be hosting the Oscars, though he added a sarcastic aside: “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”
If true, Crystal will take over for Eddie Murphy, the planned host who withdrew on Wednesday after Brett Ratner resigned from his producing post on Tuesday night. Ratner left amid controversy, including making a homophobic slur at a screening of his new movie, “Tower Heist,” last week.
New producer Brian Grazer, who took over last night, was allegedly trying to bring Murphy back into the fold, but instead has turned to a beloved choice to right the ship.
Variety later Tweeted the confirmation, saying “BREAKING: THE ACADEMY HAS CONFIRMED THAT BILLY CRYSTAL WILL HOST THE 2012 OSCARS.”

Danielle Swayze, daughter of actor Patrick Swayze‘s brother Don, has secretly married a neo-Nazi convicted felon named Joshua Steever, who was linked to an assassination plot against President Obama.
Heavily-tattooed 31-year-old Steever has bragged about being the leader of the Supreme White Alliance, a racist group which had members that reportedly planned to kill Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Other disturbing claims made by Swayze’s new husband — who has the word “racist” tattooed on his forehead in huge letters and a swastika inked in the corner of his right eye — include being the president of the Aryan Terror Brigade, and the New Jersey representative of the neo-Nazi group Blood & Honor USA.
Danielle and Joshua reportedly met online and she married him just a few days after meeting in person at a neo-Nazi event this past summer. They wanted their marriage to be kept a secret and Danielle threatened on her Facebook page to “exterminate” the “rat” who leaked the news to the press.
Even her dad Don, who hasn’t spoken to his daughter in five years, didn’t know about his new son-in-law. “I had no idea she was getting married. And let me make it clear – I would never in a million years approve of her marrying a neo-Nazi,” the True Blood guest star told the magazine.
Joshua was arrested in 2005 in Texas on felony aggravated assault charges after beating someone with an ax handle which earned him the nickname ‘Hatchet.’ In 2006, he was arrested again after he was charged with pulling a knife on three African American students and threatening to blow-up Newark Memorial High School.
A few weeks ago news surfaced that Nicki Minaj reportedly got into a screaming match with a former maid, and now it’s being reported that the rapper unleashed her inner diva onto celebrity facialist Dawn DaLuise.
“After I waxed her eyebrows and lip, she started screaming ‘Who the f**k do you think you are?’” DaLuise exclusively told Star. “‘Look what you did to my damn face! You think this sh*t is worth 170 dollars?’”
The beauty expert, who owns Dawn DaLuise Skin Refinery in Los Angeles, said she had never been treated so badly in her life, as she detailed how the pink-haired Super Bass singer threw wads of bills at her and stormed out.
“It’s a shame when you see a darling girl turn into a temperamental diva,” DaLuise said.
This isn’t the first time Nicki has shown her true colors, Dawn says.
It’s not the first time Minaj has acted strangely during a pampering appointment. DaLuise recalled how on a prior occasion, “I arrived at her condo one afternoon, her eyes were dilated, her wig was falling off, her face was covered in red sores and she was perspiring heavily.
“She was swearing and screaming at her assistant,” she added.

Piers Morgan has been focusing on his popular show Piers Morgan Tonight, and it was on that show that he announced last night that he would be leaving America’s Got Talent.
In a reference to Eddie Murphy pulling out as the host of the Oscars, Morgan began his announcement by saying, “Well, members of the Academy, I’m available…”
The British journalist went onto say that he’s “loved every second” of working on America’s Got Talent, but that he found, to his surprise, that juggling both shows had proven to be more difficult than he had imagined. He said he decided o focus on what “will be a huge year” at CNN with the upcoming election year.
He thanked the NBC network and fellow Brit Simon Cowell for the opportunity to work on American’s Got Talent, as well as his collegues on the show — Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel, and Nick Cannon.
Following the news that Eddie Murphy will no longer be hosting the 2012 Academy Awards, a rumor started that funnyman Adam Sandler would be next in line as host of the prestigious awards show. However, Adam spoke with Ryan Seacrest saying that he has no interest whatsoever in following in the footsteps of Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, and Billy Crystal.
The Oscars are the big story this week, Seacrest began, before asking, “Obviously Eddie’s not gonna do it and [original director] Brett [Rather] stepped down: Would you do it?”
“There’s no reason for me to be doing that, no. I see no happiness … there’s no upside,” the 45-year-old SNL alum said. “Whoever has the courage to go out there, I’m proud of them.”
The star of comedies such as Big Daddy, Anger Management and The Wedding Singer joked that his annual Oscar party usually consists of him falling asleep, then waking up the next day asking why he didn’t win anything.
I think the Oscars could use a fresh jolt of funny. Just saying.
