Anne Hathaway has just landed the sought-after role of Fantine in the upcoming Universal Pictures’ new production of Les Miserables.

She joins co-stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the project, which The King’s Speech helmer Tom Hooper is directing. The film has been slotted for a Dec. 7, 2012 release.

Jackman has the role of Jean Valjean and Crowe will play Inspector Javert in the new adaptation of the classic Victor Hugo novel and stage play. William Nicholson (Gladiator) has written the screenplay. Sir Cameron Mackintosh is producing with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Debra Hayward of Working Title.

Universal execs Erik Baiers and Maradith Frenkel are overseeing for the studio.

Nine of Hollywood’s hottest female stars were honored last night at Elle Magazine’s 18th Annual Women in Hollywood tribute.

The women celebrated this year included Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Aniston, Freida Pinto, Evan Rachel Wood, Naomi Watts, Michelle Pfeiffer, Viola Davis, Stacey Snider and Elizabeth Olsen, who received the Calvin Klein Collection Emerging Star award.

The clear winner of the night was Streisand, who picked up the L’Oreal Paris Legend award. Most of the women at the event looked up to and were inspired by the singer/actress’ career. Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow, who directed “The Hurt Locker,” called Streisand “a world icon” and “somebody who has mastered virtually every art form imaginable: directing, acting, composing, singing, producing, writing,” as she introduced her on stage.

Fellow nominee Aniston told the singer that she loved her, and Pinto added that she was honored just to be “sharing the same oxygen” with Streisand.

“You’re a legend not only in Hollywood but literally all over the world,” Pinto said to Streisand. “I can say that because I come from India.”

In her acceptance speech, Streisand told the crowd that only seven percent of the top 250 films were directed by women, and she encouraged those in the audience to continue to break barriers in the entertainment industry. “Let’s be bold and don’t wait for the phone to ring,” she said. “Create your own material. Tell me a story.”

Demi Moore stepped out last night for the premiere of ‘Margin Call’, a new movie, in which she has a supporting role. Demi looked shockingly thin. I’ve never seen her this small and gaunt before. It’s really scary!

The Zac Posen dress she is wearing is pretty enough, but her small frame doesn’t do the dress any favors.

She’s also still wearing her wedding ring, which either means she’s making things work with husband Ashton Kutcher - OR – they’re not ready to make a public announcement on their split yet. After all, just last week, a moving van was spotted at their Los Angeles home.

Demi just looks so sickly! I feel bad for her. Can you imagine having marriage problems – and have it be front page news everyday?

Gwen Stefani is InStyle’s November cover girl. In the magazine Gwen opens up about her daily beauty routine. Gwen reveals that she has a rather addiction to dying her hair, which she claims to dye as often as Marilyn Monroe did. She also admits that she doesn’t leave the house without makeup.

In this issue, the rock star designer opens up about doing so much in so many arenas—fashion (she launches her third line Harajuku Mini for Target mid-November), music (a new No Doubt album is slated for next year), and family (“being a mother is probably the most challenging thing I do,” she says of parenting Kingston, 5, and Zuma, 3, with husband Gavin Rossdale). 

Whatever she’s doing, it works, because she looks amazing! Considering she’s 42-years-old (can you believe that!?) she’s definitely doing something right!

Gwen on finding balance: “At work I’ve learned how to delegate. You don’t have to be on a ladder in a warehouse, micromanaging. You can be at home. And teamwork is also such a big part of marriage and parenting.”

On making time for her sons: “The thing I’d like to do is enjoy these boys while they’re young – so I don’t regret I was working too much when they’re big and don’t want to cuddle with me anymore.”

Her trademark blonde: “My hair color is L’Oréal, but I won’t reveal the number. And I do my roots as often as Marilyn Monroe did hers. I’m serious. I found out.”

The one time she went red: “Right after we came home from the first No Doubt tour I felt like I might get recognized, so I colored my hair red. And I hated it.”

Her makeup: “The makeup goes on every day, even if I’m not going anywhere.”

Britney Spears is a very naughty girl in the just-released music video for “Criminal.”

The singer is seen going on a crime-spree with a thug (played by real-life boyfriend Jason Trawick) after he saves her from a physically abusive ex.

The two are seen stealing cars, holding up convenience stores and have some seriously steamy sex in a shower.

The video caught some controversy for its violence when they were filming in London after local politicians criticized Britney for brandishing a gun after the riots.

Spears shared the video last night, tweeting “Ladies & gents, I’m excited to present to you the video for one of my favorite songs off of Femme Fatale. Enjoy.”

Now I’ve seen it all! Betty White has released a rap single titled, I’m Still Hot. The 89 year old actress has collaborated with London pop diva Luciana. Not only does this music video make for good entertainment, it’s also for a good cause, to raise awareness for the Lifeline Program aimed at retirees and seniors. Bless her little cotton socks.
