She may have parted ways with her talk show back in May, but 57-year-old media mogul Oprah Winfrey is still keeping busy. Running her own network, OWN, the talk show queen is said to be the front runner as the host of the 84th Annual Oscars event in February.
Sources at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tell PEOPLE that daytime television’s queen is among the top candidates to host the 84th annual Oscar ceremony in February.
She’s no stranger to Hollywood, after all – she received an Oscar nod for her supporting role in 1985 for The Color Purple.
Though it all sounds great, she’s not a shoe-in quite yet. Other possible hosts for the next big day include:
Anne Hathaway, 28, who played host this year with James Franco, or Hugh Jackman, 42, who got the audience going at the 2009 ceremony. Perhaps Billy Crystal, 63, who has hosted the ceremony eight times, will rise for the occasion again, or Neil Patrick Harris, 38, a two-time Tony Awards host who also hosted the Emmy Awards in 2009.
Who would make the best host?

Analyst and host Nancy Grace is known for raising eyebrows with her coverage of some of the most controversial cases that have been in the spotlight. Nancy says even though she knows she isn’t the most favored in the public, she’s still going to push forward and do her job:
“I know that a lot of people hate me and say rotten things about me. The only thing I can do is keep working.”
“[On Casey Anthony] It’s a very hard thing to digest when your justice system fails you, but … you cannot stop believing in it because it is the best system in the world,” she says. “The system can fail, but that’s all we have.”
“We’ve covered literally hundreds of missing people, missing children, unsolved homicides since Caylee went missing,” she says. “It’s just hard when you’re so emotionally invested in a particular case. … But like every good trial lawyer, what you have to do is set aside those emotions and that investment, because there are other cases that need you. So I’m going to pick up the next file and go on to the next missing person or missing child or unsolved homicide.”

It’s been 6 years since actress Jennifer Aniston and actor Brad Pitt‘s highly publicized divorce, but in a recent interview with James Lipton on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio, Jennifer spoke about dealing with the split, and why her 2006 role in the hit film The Break-Up may have been more convincing than she first imagined.
In her starring role in the 2006 romantic comedy, which she described as “a beautiful human story,” the Emmy Award-winning actress, 42, had her own personal inspiration from which to draw.
“I was slightly familiar with the topic, so I honestly felt like, ‘What a great way to sort of exorcise some of that.’ ”
This personal connection, she says, made it “easier, oddly,” to tap into her character. “You would think otherwise,” she explains, but the hit film was her way of saying, “Turn the page. Let’s move on.”
Jennifer’s Inside the Actors Studio interview is set to air Monday, July 11.

It’s been almost 10 years since the then 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped at knifepoint from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, and held captive for 9 months before being rescued. The now 23-year-old survivor is planning on joining forces with ABC News and helping other kidnapping victim son their road to recovery:
Now, Smart, 23, will help other kidnapping victims and their families as an ABC News contributor, focusing on missing person and child abduction cases.
“She’ll help our viewers better understand missing person stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing,” ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend tells The Hollywood Reporter. Smart, who is expected to make her debut on ABC News in the next few weeks, will be “looking ahead, not looking back at her own story,” Townsend said. “This is definitely not about looking backward and telling her story, which has been well told and retold.”
No word on whether or not Elizabeth would be making the big move from Salt Lake City, where she attends Brigham Young University, to New York City, where ABC News is filmed.

The short-lived $1 million offer from the Jerry Springer Show to have Casey Anthony and her family appear as guests has been reportedly been taken off the table after it sparked public outrage.
Freelance producer Al Taylor, who has worked with the Jerry Springer Show in the past, called Casey’s attorney with the offer earlier today, July 8. This isn’t the first time Mr. Taylor has made an offer for an appearance by Casey; several years ago Al called her attorney for a Springer guest appearance, but after getting a green light from Springer producers this time around, he went ahead and made the recently acquitted mother an offer.
The offer threw Springer’s show into turmoil though as not all execs were aware it had been made. A show spokesperson told RadarOnline.com that he was not aware of the Springer show making a financial offer to Baez, but when asked if there would be interest in interviewing Casey, said: “Any news organization right now would be interested in speaking with her. However, we would not discuss any potential guests.”
“I spoke to someone very high up and they knew I made the offer for them. The Springer show got immediate backlash though and decided they didn’t want any part of it anymore. But there is another show interested and they are about to make an offer in writing to Baez.”
Ugh.
