Jon Cryer had “no idea” Charlie Sheen would spiral out of control

Jon Cryer appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, and of course he talked about the hurricane that is Charlie Sheen vs. Two and a Half Men. Jon stayed pretty quiet during the whole ordeal, and now that Ashton Kutcher has signed on, maybe he feels like he can finally talk about what it was like for him, and what he now thinks of Charlie.

Turns out Two and a Half Men’s Jon Cryer didn’t know his costar Charlie Sheen as well as he thought.

Speaking to David Letterman in a Wednesday interview about Sheen’s wild outbursts and antics, Cryer says he had no idea Sheen would spiral out of control so quickly.

“It’s as much a mystery to me as to everyone, I think,” Cryer told Letterman of the behavior of his colleague, who was fired from Men March 7, weeks after a two-day bender landed him in the hospital and caused his series to halt production.

During the show’s forced hiatus, Cryer, 46, says he watched Sheen’s manic media interviews and was just as puzzled as the rest of Men’s fans.

“My favorite moment was I got a text from someone, saying, ‘Charlie Sheen just called Thomas Jefferson a p*ssy.’ I said, ‘I think things are getting out of hand,’” he told Letterman. “We didn’t see where it was going. This has never happened before. It wasn’t like, back in 1963, oh everyone remembers when Fred McMurray went bats*it and started talking about free mason ninjas and stuff. It was crazy! And Vivian Vance started urinating on the set of ‘Here’s Lucy.’ So nobody was prepared for this.”

Feeling slighted after being dumped from the show, Sheen, 45, took aim at Cryer, his costar for the past nine seasons. “Jon has not called me,” a fired-up Sheen told E! News in March. “He’s a turncoat, a traitor, a troll. Clearly he’s a troll.”

However, Cryer — who appears on the series as Alan Harper — harbors no ill will.

“I love him, he’s a great friend,” Cryer said of his costar. “None of us wanted to continue with the show if we felt like it was hurting him, and there was a point at which, we felt like, there’s no control over him.”

I’ve always liked Jon Cryer – and I’m glad that the show is going to go on, without Charlie. He deserves to have a hit show even if his costars go crazy!

The secret to Will and Jada Smith’s 14-year marriage? Time apart.

Jada Pinkett-Smith’s 14-year marriage to Will Smith is one of the longest lasting in Hollywood. She opened up to Uptown Magazine as to how she keeps her marriage strong.

The actress revealed in a new interview: ‘People think that Will and I don’t spend a lot of time together. Too much time, actually, if you ask me…

‘It’s always nice to have a little time apart. Sometimes you need that.’

Jada made her revelations to Uptown magazine, posing on the magazine’s front cover in a black swimsuit.

The 39-year-old also talked about prioritising her children, pop star Willow, ten and actor Jaden, 13.

‘There was a time when all I had to worry about was myself. I’d get offers to do things – to go to Bolivia for three months or go to Prague – and now it’s like, I can’t.

‘It’s not about me anymore, it’s about me being there for my kids. And there’s no one else I would leave that job to.’

Gwyneth Paltrow uses her GOOP newsletter to focus on the Bible vs. homosexuality

Usually Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP newsletters are rather boring, but this week’s newsletter is getting lots of attention! With it being gay pride month, Gwynnie decided to focus on various interpretations of the Bible’s take on homosexuality.

I find the whole thing interesting, and tend to agree with both of these women!

Homosexuality in the Bible

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible. This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, “Two mommies? How lucky is she?!” What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

Happy pride.
Love,
gp

Gwyneth also included a response by Cynthia Bourgeault, an Episcopal priest.

As a Christian I am bound, when I listen to this diversity of biblical voices, to set my compass by the teachings and the path walked by Jesus himself. Where biblical testimony is internally inconsistent (and even Jesus experienced it this way!), I am bound to honor Jesus as my final court of appeal. And thus, the bottom line must inescapably be that nowhere does Jesus condemn homosexuality, and certainly nowhere does he wish harm upon anyone, even those whom the religious culture is so quick to condemn as sinners. His harsh words are reserved entirely for those whose certainty about their religious rectitude causes them to condemn others, or to block the Spirit’s persistent attempts to open up new channels of forgiveness and hope. Jesus is all about inclusion, forgiveness, and empowerment. In the light of his compassionate presence, people are set free to live their lives in strength and hope, regardless of whether they be considered outcasts by those in the ‘religious know.’

There is much more on this topic in her newsletter, which you can read here! You really should jump over to read the full newsletter, it’s pretty interesting!

FIRST LOOK at Sacha Baron Cohen’s NEW Saddam Hussein-inspired character!

The Huffington Post has this exclusive first look at Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Saddam Hussein-inspired character for his new film, The Dictator.

Debuting exclusively at The Huffington Post, here is the first image of Sacha Baron Cohen in his Saddam Hussein-inspired costume for his new film, “The Dictator.” About a Hussein-like dictator who gets secretly replaced by a lookalike goat herder and now must find new meaning in a life in New York City, the film is inspired by “Zabibah and the King,” a book about a benevolent dictator that was revealed to be written by Hussein himself.

Baron Cohen will star as both the dictator and herder, and last month, it was announced that Anna Faris will play the NYC organic store owner who opens his eyes to new possibilities.

The book itself is about a benevolent, beloved king who falls in love with a beautiful, victimized girl who was raped by her cruel husband. Believe it or not, it’s a subtle allegory for Iraq and the United States — the king (based, obviously, on Saddam) is the peaceful Iraq, while the cruel, rapist husband is the Gulf War-waging United States.

The log line from Paramount, the film’s production home, turns subverts the premise, saying, “The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.”

Directed by Larry Charles, the film hits theaters May 11th, 2012.

I love SBC, I can’t wait to see what he’s up to next!

Chris Colfer signs a 2-book deal!

Chris Colfer, who play’s Kurt on ‘Glee’, is about to become an author!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colfer, 21, recently signed a two-book deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

The first book, titled ‘The Land of Stories,’ follows the adventures of a set of twins and will combine fairytales into a modern setting. The book, which targets young readers ages 8 to 12, will be released next summer. A second, yet-to-be-titled book will follow.

“When I was 10 years old, I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to write this book, I would jump at the chance,” Colfer said in a statement Wednesday. “This book has been at the core of my imagination for a long time and I’m excited and nervous to share it.”

But this isn’t the only new endeavor the talented star is tackling. It was recently announced that he’s penning a Disney Channel pilot based on the children’s book ‘The Little Leftover Witch’ by Florence Laughlin. But that’s not all. Colfer is also writing ‘Struck By Lightening,’ an independent feature film in which he would also star.

Recently named one of Time’s ’100 Most Influential People,’ we have a feeling big things are in store for Colfer.
