In 2008, Tom Cruise jump-started a stalled movie career with his turn as Les Grossman in Ben Stiller’s ‘Tropic Thunder’.

Considering the success of his character, Tom quickly said he would star in – and produce the spinoff movie himself. Now, according to MTV, there’s already a script!

The 2008 comedy smash Tropic Thunder spawned some memorable characters, to say the least. From Robert Downey Jr.’s very method actor Kirk Lazarus to Jack Black’s drug-fueled Jeff Portnoy, there could have been any number of characters from the film that earned their own spin-off movie.

Of course, since no one in the industry has quite the same pull as Tropic Thunder’s sleazy, rap enthusiast movie honcho Les Grossman (played by a transformed Tom Cruise), there’s no surprise that it’s him.

When MTV News caught up with “Saturday Night Live” funny man Bill Hader at the first-ever Comedy Awards (which air Sunday, April 10 at 8p.m. on Comedy Central, VH1, Spike TV, Logo, CMT, TVLand, and online at thecomedyawards.com) he told us that the Les movie is written and is getting closer to arriving in theaters.

Hader, who appeared in a few Les Grossman skits in anticipation for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, confirmed that his friend, actor/writer Michael Bacall (who previously penned Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and is currently working on the upcoming remake of Fright Night) “wrote it and he’s told me some really funny scenes from it.”

While Hader admitted he was vague on the details of what the plot for the movie based on Cruise’s loud, boorish exec would actually be about (”I just know the broad strokes. Michael just telling me, ‘I just wrote this scene where blah, blah, blah and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s funny, man!’”) or when it would finally make it to theaters (Cruise will be busy with Rock of Ages soon) he was sure of one thing, “It’s gonna be great.”

I wonder if the movie could be any good. I’m not really a fan of spin-off’s… I tend to think that the original’s are generally the best. And I’m also not sure if Tom Cruise’s character could carry an entire movie. What do you think?

January Jones lands the cover of the new issue of W Magazine, and on it she definitely looks nothing like her ‘Mad Men‘ character Betty Draper!

The actress opens up about her rise from being a model to becoming a movie star. Interestingly, January originally tried out for the role of Peggy on ‘Mad Men’ (the job went to Elisabeth Moss). Series creator Matthew Weiner had bigger plans for the blonde beauty, giving her the role of Betty Draper instead.

“There was no Betty in the pilot when I auditioned. Matthew Weiner, the creator of the show, had no intention of showing Don Draper’s home life,” she revealed. “I read for Peggy two times—it was between me and Elisabeth Moss, who eventually got the part. At the end of the scene, there was a casual mention that Don was married. Matt went home that night and wrote two scenes that featured Betty. I auditioned a couple of days later, and he made me a verbal promise that the character would grow. I took the part on faith—there was no script or fleshed-out character or Betty plotline.”

After a dramatic, public back and forth, Weiner and carrier AMC reached a deal for three more seasons, meaning Jones will once get to play the part for a good while longer. She’s also set to star in this summer’s “X-Men: First Class,” playing the role of Emma Frost.

“I’m a villain. As Emma Frost I’m telepathic, and I can turn into a diamond, which means I’m very, very cold,” Jones said. “I always wear white: lots of iridescent stretch leather, lots of sparkle, and ass-kicking white boots.”

Can you imagine January as Peggy!? What a mess that would have been! Further proof that Matthew is a genius.
