Joaquin Pheonix to star in new Scientology drama!

Joaquin Phoenix is coming back to the big screen! Variety reports that Joaquin is in talks to join Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled religious drama. The story is based on the founding of Scientology and has Hoffman playing “Lancaster Dodd, a charismatic intellectual known as The Master” who creates a new religion, but eventually comes into conflict with his chief disciple. Phoenix would play the disciple, Freddie Sutton, “an alcholic drifter who becomes his right-hand man only to begin questioning his manipulative mentor.”

Demi Lovato: “I had a nervous breakdown”

18-year-old Demi Lovato is finally opening up about the reason behind her rehab stint. In February, after reportedly punching a Jonas Brothers backup dancer in the face, Demi checked herself into a rehab center. She stayed for three months. The actress and singer was said to have been doing drugs at the time, and was physically abusing herself (cutting an bulimia).

Now, Demi is ready to talk about her ordeal.

“I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention. I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over.”

“Yes, there have been times when I definitely have been tempted to get rid of my dinner. But I will deal with it for the rest of my life because it’s a life-long disease. I don’t think there’s going to be a day when I don’t think about food or my body, but I’m living with it, and I wish I could tell young girls to find their safe place and stay with it.”

“I don’t let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me. I know that if I am happy, that’s all that matters to me. And it’s okay to be selfish like that sometimes, when it comes to your well-being. Do what makes you happy, and don’t care what others think.”

“I don’t really define it by anything. I live my life every day, and if I feel like wearing combat boots one day and shoes the next, I will. I allow myself a lot of freedom and I’m very peaceful now. I have come to realize that just making yourself happy is most important. Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want, and to do what makes you happy. That’s my life motto.”

Karina Smirnoff’s Playboy Cover!

‘Dancing With the Stars’ star Karina Smirnoff poses in the latest issue of Playboy. Inside the magazine she takes everything off, and Hugh Hefner calls the spread “unforgettable”.

“As a dancer I’ve always embraced my body. I’m thrilled to show off my strong, toned physique in the pages of Playboy and celebrate my sexiness,” Smirnoff told the magazine. “To me, sexy is the confident energy a person produces. Sexy is the comfortable feeling of being who you are. Sexy is not just having beautiful lips, legs and arms; it’s beyond that. Sexy is soul.”

Jennifer Lawrence strips down in new GQ photos!

At age 20, Jennifer Lawrence scored a much deserved Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone. Even more impressive: This summer she’s giving us a reason to see a Mel Gibson film ‘The Beaver’ (GQ claims she’s the only reason to see the film) and yet another X-Men sequel, where she’ll be half naked as Mystique.

Now the Kentucky-born fox can add a full-on GQ magazine spread to her list of accomplishments.

“There are a lot of young American actors right now who haven’t got any technique,” ‘X-Men’ prequel director Matthew Vaughn tells GQ. “And to be blunt, a lot of these kids assume that just by having a good set of teeth and t**ts, smiling for the camera’s gonna be enough. I needed someone who could act.”

Which she can indeed. In mid-March, Lawrence nabbed the leading role in ‘The Hunger Games,’ a much-anticipated adaptation to the hottest young adult series since ‘Twilight.’ Lionsgate confirmed Lawrence for the coveted part of Katniss Everdeen; she reportedly beat out other young actresses, including ‘True Grit’ star Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Emma Roberts.

Kobe Bryant fined $100,000 for anti-gay slur

Kobe Bryant now has to pay for an “anti-gay” slur he made during the third quarter of a Tuesday night game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The NBA has fined Kobe $1000,000 for what it’s calling “inexcusable” homophobic language against a referee. Bryant told ESPN he’s going to appeal the fine, saying his comment was made in frustration during the heat of a game. NBA Comissioner David Stern says it doesn’t matter when the comment was made, “While I’m fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated.”

His apology isn’t enough. “The comment that I made, even though it was not meant as what it’s perceived to be, is nonetheless wrong,” Bryant said on ESPN radio.

The controversy comes at a time when the NBA was already planning a public service announcement campaign with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in order to present the league as being more “gay friendly.”

The announcement is set to air during the NBA Finals and part of the GLSEN’s “Think Before You Speak” campaign about anti-gay language.

“When it comes to homophobia, nothing surprises me,” said ESPN’s L.Z. Granderson, an openly gay sports writer.

“He finally apologized and that means he’s doing some listening,” Granderson said.

Sports blogger John Krolik said, “Kobe does have freedom of speech but freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences.”

Bryant seems to realize that now.

“There’s a lot of things that are being said that should not said,” Bryant said on ESPN Radio.

What do you think – does Kobe deserve to be fined?
