Warners Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced that Henry Cavill has been cast as the man of steel in the new Superman movie.
Cavill, 27, is best known for his role as of Charles Brandon on the Showtime series The Tudors. His latest film—aptly titled for the budding superhero—is Immortals, slated for release this fall.
Zack Snyder, who will be directing the Super reboot, says in a statement: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
Also rumored to be on the consideration list for the role of Clark Kent was Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello. Superman: Man of Steel is slated for release in December 2012.

After nearly three months of inpatient treatment, Demi Lovato is finally heading home.
A source close to the 18-year-old Disney star tells Celebuzz that she has completed her required treatment and will be moved to an outpatient treatment program.
“Demi came back to LA earlier this week,” the source tells Celebuzz. “She completed her prescribed treatment and an outpatient program near the treatment facility.”
The source says that Demi will “focus first and foremost on her well-being” but that she will “continue to see doctors in LA who will help her work on the issues she confronted in treatment.”
“She is so grateful to all of her fans for their unbelievable support,” says the source, “and looks forward to being able to talk to all of them very soon.”
Demi checked into a rehab center in late October after abruptly quitting her South American tour with the Jonas Brothers. The Sonny with a Chance star sought treatment for “emotional and physical issues” following a fight with back-up dancer (and former friend) Alex Welch.
Alex later filed a civil suit against Demi but dropped her case shortly before Christmas.
Earlier this month, Demi thanked her fans through her Facebook page for their support. “I want to make sure my fans know how thankful I am for all their love, support and prayers during this difficult time,” Demi wrote. “Thank you for standing beside me through it all.”
Filming for Sonny with a Chance‘s third season started on Friday but producers said that they plan on only filming Demi-free “So Random!” sketches while Demi remained in treatment. It isn’t immediately clear if Demi will be returning to the Sonny set on Monday.
As of Friday – Tony Parker and Eva Longoria are officially divorced!
According to TMZ, the divorce is final – and both sides are happy. Originally both sides filed divorce petitions, but in the end – there were no issues.
According to TMZ, Charlie Sheen has entered rehab – and that’s where he’ll stay for the next three months, leaving the future of ‘Two and a Half Men’ up in the air.
Sources connected with the show tell TMZ the crew is grumbling … worried they will be the financial casualties of Charlie’s problem. There are 300 people associated with the show, many of whom are nervous about not getting a paycheck.
Sources say when production was halted last February while Charlie was in rehab, the crew was “partially compensated.”
We’re told the studio hasn’t decided what to do this time around — whether the staff will be fully or partially compensated. A decision is expected soon.
That said … everyone we’ve spoken with is supportive of Charlie and knows he needs to get better, which ultimately will be the best job security.
In other Charlie news – one of his porn star friends, Kacey Jordan, is loving life after cashing a $30,000 check Charlie gave her the night of his bender.
Sometime during his 36 hour bender, Charlie whipped out his checkbook during a conversation with one of the porn stars about staring up his “porn family”. As TMZ previously reported, Charlie was throwing money around like crazy during the binge — offering to spend $1,000,000 to rent out a neighbor’s mansion for four months … and ordering in a briefcase full of cocaine.
Good thing he’s checked himself into rehab!
**Fixed the picture**
Not that this should come as a surprise to anyone, but NKOTB singer Jonathan Knight has officially come out of the closet. He confirmed his sexuality on the band’s official website:
“I have never been outed by anyone but myself! I did so almost twenty years ago. I never knew that I would have to do it all over again publicly just because I reunited with NKOTB! I have lived my life very openly and have never hidden the fact that I am gay! Apparently the pre requisite to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption ‘I am gay’. I apologize for not doing so if this is what was expected! My belief is that you live your life by example, and not by a caption on a magazine! If there ever has been any confusion about my sexuality, then you are someone that doesn’t even know me!I love living my life being open and honest, but at this time I choose not to discuss my private life any further! My fellow band members don’t discuss their private lives with their loved ones and I don’t feel that just because I am gay, I should have to discuss mine!”
Jonathan was sort of outed earlier last week – by fellow 80′s star, Tiffany. When asked if she ever had a relationship with one of the boys while touring with them – she said:
“The quiet one, the shy one. [He] became gay later. I didn’t do it. I had issues with that. I was thinking maybe I did. Now looking back when we were dating, he was so much fun. We used to do facials together. He was so easy to talk to.”
