A week after undergoing surgery for a mystery illness, the National Enquirer reports that singer Aretha Franklin has incurable pancreatic cancer.

The surgery, labeled a success, came under mysterious circumstances. This is the first time this illness has been reported. In November, she canceled all concerts through May 2011 due to “medical reasons.”

The Enquirer’s report lists pancreatic survival rates at 5-10%, and even lower for someone of Franklin’s age and weight.

Store employees tell TMZ Britney usually comes by every year around the holidays to buy Christmas toys and other seasonal goodies — no word on what she bought this time.

Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards passed away yesterday, at the age of 61, after a long battle with breast cancer.

Edwards posted a message on her Facebook page in what ended up being the day she passed.

“You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope,” Edwards wrote in the Facebook post. “These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined.”

“…there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like,” she added. “It’s called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn’t possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know.”

Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2004, shortly before the presidential election in which her husband was the Democratic vice presidential nominee. In March 2007, at the start of John Edwards‘ presidential campaign, she revealed that the condition had returned and spread to her bones, and that she had been diagnosed as terminal.

The couple later became separated following revelations that John Edwards had engaged in an affair with a campaign videographer. Edwards wrote about her cancer and her relationship with her husband in multiple memoirs, including last year’s “Resilience.”

Edwards was hospitalized last week with doctors saying the cancer had metastasized to her liver, according to People.com.

This hasn’t gone over too well, despite it being the bride’s wishes. “She didn’t invite a bunch of her celeb friends,” the source revealed. “This has apparently upset a bunch of people.”

Angelina Jolie recently opened up about what it was like to play a feminine character again in her latest movie, ‘The Tourist’.

“It took me a while to get the heels and the gloves and the whole how to hold the handbag,” she says of her über-elegant character. “I think everybody knows I’m not necessarily that female in that way. So it was a little bit of an exercise to get in there.” But it was a challenge that Jolie relished. “You get into it, and you kind of have the fun of being a girl,” she explains. “It was fun for me to discover that, having come off Salt. It was nice to rediscover female.”

While working with co-writer and director Florien Henckel von Donnersmarck, Jolie found the hardest part of nailing the character was learning to take it easy. “My note that I got every day was slow down,” she says. “Because I think a very modern woman, we attack things, we’re aggressive, we move through. We’re like New Yorkers, you know? So this is the hardest thing for me, to kind of take a deep breath and just glide a little more. It took me a really long time.”
