
Katherine Heigl lovingly cradles the gorgeous little girl in her arms, wrapped in some white frilly netting.
Heigl adopted Naleigh, who was born in South korea with congenital heart problems that were later corrected through surgery, just ‘three or four days’ before she started work on Life As we Know It.
‘I was about to play a woman who inherits a baby, and I was experiencing the exact same thing,’ she said in an interview with the magazine.
Inside the issue Heigl also poses with more of her family, including mum Nancy and sister Meg.
‘My sister is Korean,’ Katherine said. ‘I hope one day she and Naleigh will be able to talk about what it’s like to be adopted.’
Heigl has talked extensively about her decision to adopt, claiming that she feels it was her destiny to do so.
She says it’s a subject that she broached with her then boyfriend, who later became her husband, musician Josh Kelley, early on in their relation, even before they got engaged.
Explaining that making her plans really clear was key to deciding if they had a future together. ‘Not everybody is down with that,’ she notes. ‘Not everybody thinks that.
‘I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen.’
The couple finalised the adoption of Naleigh in September 2009
